Mac, CXG 9.2, Scenario freezes

In my Mac using CXG 9.2 I can play campaign and tutorial but when I click scenario the game freezes and I have to quit CXG. Can anyone help me fix this? Thank you.

Have you installed the official 1.36 patch? You can find it here.

If you have problem installing it with CXG, try running it directly with Wine.

Running scenario "After the Fall" with 1.36 patch on Linux Mint 10: no problems.

It's the GOG version which is fully patch, just in case I just checked and it is 1.36.
I'm gonna try CXG 10, if it does work I will edit and post it here. Wish me luck.

Edit: Nope, it still freezes when I pick scenario.

Edit: BTW I can't run the game from the application icon, it opens and closes in seconds. I have to use the Config (Age of Wonders) icon and then hit play. Mentioning this just in case has to do something with it.

Have you tried doing a reinstall into a fresh Windows XP bottle? I just tried doing an install of my copy of Age of Wonders (also from GOG) into a clean winxp bottle and the campaign works fine. (CXG 10.01, OS X 10.6.6, 2.0 Ghz C2D MacBook w/GMA 950)

Like in my original post I can play both the tutorial and the campaign no problem, the problem is with the scenarios.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem - I have to launch the game from the config application to get it to run at all (running the actual game causes the application to open and then immediately close), and clicking on the 'scenario' button in main menu causes the game to freeze. The scenario problem is by far the more annoying!

I am using the GOG version on Mac 10.5.8, crossover games 9.2.

Hi,

I just nuked my original post, as the demo is useless as a test case. Someone is going
to need gather a debuglog of the problem, following the instructions here ;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/SubmitTechSupportLog

Probably just having +trace in the 'Other' stringbox area is enough. Run the program,
and try to start a scenario - recreate the problem in effect. Gzip the debuglog, and
upload it to some public fileshare repository (rapidshare or the like), and post the
download URL back here so I and/or others can have a look at what's going wrong...

Cheers!

Okay, bit of an update and some plot thickening...

I just bought the GamersGate release, downloaded and installed same. Note that I
decided upon that release, and not the gog.com release because I already have a
few examples of where the gog.com version of a game works on linux but not on Mac
(and at the same time, other distributor's version of the same game work fine
on both platforms)... and this thread is starting to look like that....

The GamersGate release is already patched to 1.36.0052 and scenarios work. I have
yet to debug it and find out why intro/cut videos are sound no picture, but I've
a pretty good idea what's causing that.

It was pretty much 'out of the box' on linux -- I did have emulated virtual desktop
enabled, but that's it....

It was a bit more of a fight on the Mac here (iMac 11,2 |HD5670 video|OS 10.6.7 with
CXG 10.1) To begin with, it wouldn't start at all, quite likely the intro video thing
is more of a problem on the Mac, but installing DirectX 9 seemed to do enough to get
past that. Once so, I start AoW again on the Mac (with +trace,+loaddll debug on) and
it worked pretty much the same as in linux, and I was able to select, load and play
in scenario mode.... no apparent problems...

Now... I've updated the admin.dists entry for this C4 page, but, I've left the gog.com
entry as 'untested' to allow some other advocate here with that release to update it
accordingly -- same goes for the Steam release ; I can't speak to what I don't have (8

...I'll see if I can find the video replay problem... it may be participle here...

Just tried installing legacy DirectX into my Age of Wonders bottle and the scenario button magically works - no idea why it didn't before (since everything else seemed okay). But anyway - problem solved!

Thanks for looking in to this Don, you're a real trooper :)

Hi again...

Kewl, I think perhaps that's it -- it was certainly the first thing to hit me in
face here ; linux doesn't seem to care whether DirectX 9 is present or not -- the
Mac on the other hand wanted it straight away. My best guess would be one of the
cxwine builtin d3dx9 dll's is making better work of things in linux than OSX, due
to some video driver/X related differences between the two platforms....

...I had a look at the video intro stuff -- it may actually be working, but I can't
see it (gamma set to zero), so I'll need recheck that. With the gamersgate release,
you can turn off the video intro with the settings program/launcher, which is what
I would advise, because it's not working anyhow and that failure might block some
other thread, so best not play the intro at all =)

I'll rattle a crosstie profile together for it in a bit -- if anyone wants to feed
the data required so the gog.com version can be included in the same profile, just
let me know and I'll show you what is needed...

Cheers!
