AOM EE runs well

It runs quite well, few issues:

  • the resolution I couldn't change, it is 1024 x 768
  • launcher menu doesn't show menu item text, but it is easy to guess the first one runs the game :)

Multiplayer wasn't tested

Steps what I did, not sure if everything needed:
Windows 10 Bottle x32 -> .NET 4.7.2 -> Steam -> Age Of Mythology EE -> remove ALL msxml related files (3.x, 4.x all of them) -> set Windows 7 compatibility mode (not sure if this needs in the end or a simple Windows 7 bottle would have been the same)

When you run the game, it requires the msxml 4.0, tried everything to install different versions, but in the end, removing all msxml files from the bottle (not sure where they were) worked like a charm.

There is a discussion that you can change resolution:

For me didn't work, always crashed. With some combination it passed through to the game but overall the resolution didn't change.

Holy cow dude, thanks a lot! I thought this was going to be impossible since no other explanation was working/said it was impossible/or told me errors in computer-talk that might as well had been in greek for me. Yours was really straight forward after I got comfortable with a few other things and finally worked. You might be the only person on the internet now with a real answer.

Thanks again!

Hi, thanks for the steps. I've tried it and it is working. I tried an online game too (unranked) - it is working.

Issues I am facing:

  • Cannot load saved games - it says something like "not able to load content."
  • Game crashes in between - within 45-60 mins into the game, the game got stuck (with music playing in background) and eventually closes the game.

Other than that, I'm happy.
Thanks for this post,
Dreamster.

Tested with 20.0 version and seems fine, the previous issues still there.
You do not need any special thing in the end, just remove the msxml[3,4,6].dll files from system32 / syswow64 dirs (if it was a Win 10 x64 bottle)
