Game worked fine, now it won't

After one of the latest updates, it seems I can't get the game to launch properly anymore. I´m stuck at the annoying menu that appears when you launch the game, except that I can´t push any of the buttons or options there, is just like a big useless jpeg... has anyone found a workaround for this? Tried using the nostartup option, didn´t work =/

MacBook Pro
13-inch, Mid 2009
Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)

I just downloaded an update (or steam did automatically) and got the same problem.

I found it could be fixed by right clicking the game name in steam, going to Properties > Local Files > Browse Local files, then renaming Launcher.exe as something else and renaming AoK HD.exe as Launcher.exe. Apparently this tricks steam into launching the game directly.

HOWEVER, the update seems to have introduced a another new problem whereby everything in the game (except grass, water and trees) renders as blacked out. Disabling and reenabling the nostartup option doesn't help :/

Since this makes it impossible to distinguish units from different players the game is now unplayable until a fix is found :(

No real purpose of posting this, other than letting people know that I am also having the problem with all units being rendered black, hopefully someone will find a fix for this :)

Ps - It still is kind of playable, I only play Aoe2hd with friends so as long as i can play it im happy, but being able to see the units is always a plus, haha

Yes, it's really annoying! Will have to go back to using parallels until they fix this.

I'm having the same problem, but I'm not sure if your all's description is the same as mine. The problem I'm having is the initial screen with the wood slates that look like signs, and the vellum background sits there forever, then when I did get it to the game setup area I couldn't see the name I gave myself for the save files. Then when I did get the game running the map was black just like as described happens that was fixed, in the past, by the nostartup fix.

Is this what you all are experiencing too?

I just fixed it! I renamed Launcher.exe to 1Launcher.exe and renamed AoE_HD or whatever the .exe's name is to Launcher.exe and ran it directly. It launcehd fine and the black map is gone.
