How do I get this to work...

Hey guys,
Brand new to crossover so a lot of the Jargon and Program are still new to me and I'm having some problems figuring this out. I got STEAM for Windows installed via CrossTie no problem at all, I then installed the AoE2 HD game via Steam (not sure if this was what I was supposed to do). Anyway, it installed and gave me the option to play so I tried, all that came up was some notice about installing microsoft vc redist package, and the game never loaded. Am I missing a step or multiple steps? Any help is appreciated.

Update
I followed the C++ tips and tricks directions and the "nostartup" directions. I am still just getting a black screen when the game boots up. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help!

EDIT I am running a MacBook Air

Also not working here.

I'm using:

Crossover 2012
Windows version set to both XP and Vista (neither worked)
The game via Steam

I've tried:

Both fixes listed under tips.

My hardware:
Hackintosh running 10.8.3
GTX 670
i7-3770K @ 4.5Ghz

The game works fine if I reboot into Windows. I might try running it in VMWare too.

Have either of you attempted to use the Mac Driver?

That configuration won't be officially supported, for pretty obvious reasons.

I also tried the Black Fix thing and got a White Screen stead.. Please help?

I finally got it to work!

I deleted all my previous bottles, then created a new Steam/WinXP bottle. I installed AOE2HD via Steam, then launched it — and it works! I didn't start a game to test if that works (no time), but the main/sub menus all work.

I did NOT use the nostartup flags or the experimental Mac driver with this new bottle.

I'm using the latest version of CrossOver with the latest version of Steam/AOE2HD.

Yes, that's quite obvious, which is why I posted in the unofficial/community forum.

The game has been quite heavily patched since launch. Probably that's one of the things they did fix (along with improving its performance quite a bit). Windows users also had the problem.

Having the same problem, tried all above solutions but mine has not fixed itself. Game is running on MacBook Pro, installed through Steam. When I press Play, after going through the VC process, a black box slightly smaller than the steam box opens (the blacked out start up window) When I click the AoE icon on my dock and right click it briefly flashes the actual start up window through the blackness, but immediately goes away and clicking around on the blacked out box accomplishes nothing.
