So I just came back to play after 5 months, and when I click crossover it updated steam. But the game will not open. Any advice, what changed?

Same here, M2 MBA MacOS Ventura 13.4.1, CrossOver 22.1.1, on Sunday I played just fine but today it doesn't work

Today patch 87863 was installed and the game is not starting.

Same case here, it worked until yesterday. I bought Crossover exclusively to play AOE II DE and it's been really unstable so far. First Steam and now the game itself.

Same here, new update and now AOE2 DE not working, any help would be appreciated.

Same problem here on an 2021 MBP 14" M1Pro. When I click on the play button in Steam, it says it's playing the game for a second but the AOE screen never comes up. Then the button in Steam turns back to the regular 'play' button again.

Same problem here... Can the Linux/Proton workaround somehow be applied to Crossover as well?

We appreciate your patience with this issue. Our devs are currently working on a proper solution for Proton, and our plan is to include that same fix for CrossOver 23.

does this mean that I have to buy the new version of Crossover, if I want this bug to be fixed? And when will Crossover23 be relased?

I play only AoE with Crossover since little over one year now and honestly wasn't planing on buying it every year again.

We expect CrossOver 23 to be in beta quite soon. We're just ironing out the last few fixes.

And yes, if you want updates to CrossOver and it has been over a year since you purchased CrossOver, you need to purchase CrossOver again.

Hi Max,

You can submit a ticket to our Sales team, but the general policy is that renewals are 50% off if purchased within a month of the expiration of your support entitlements; otherwise, you need to buy a new license.

And that's a tricky question. We can't anticipate how often a given application will make changes that will require development for us to fix :/ One other consideration is macOS updates: we often need to make changes to support every new macOS release, so if you want to keep using the latest macOS version, you'll likely need to continue to purchase CrossOver.

I don't have a release date at this time. We typically release 4-6 weeks after we go to beta, depending on how beta testing goes.

Thanks a lot for the effort to fix this issue. Are we able to download the beta file and join the testing as well? We are willing to try and take any risk if the beta version works correctly or not.

Hi! I recently bought the app and played AOE2 DE nicely during trial. Thank you very much for your efforts!

It stopped working due to the famous error. Today I joined the BetterTester program and tried crossover-2320230630-unstripped.zip nightly build. It doesn't seem to fix the issue. Is there a build/patch that I can try and test?

Edit: Btw I didn't reinstall Steam or AOE... I just run nightly build and tried to run my existing bottle...

Same here. Ventura 13.3, Crossover 22.1.1. AOE II does not start. How can we join the beta?

Also adding in that I can't get AOE2 to start anymore.

Am I correct in my read of the thread above that the only fix being worked on right now is the launch of Codeweavers 23 six weeks from now? And that we have to re-purchase Codeweavers to get access to it? I bought my year's subscription last December and would really like to not have to buy it twice or wait 6 weeks to get it.

I am experiencing the same issue with the most recent nightly "2320230701-unstripped.zip" after following the above steps, and running "verify integrity of game files" after initial crash, no luck. It looks like a fix is in Wine and Proton, but it maybe hasn't made it to the nightly builds yet.

How would I implement the patch in Wine to get it going with Crossover? This is very confusing to me, I'd just like to play.

Downloaded Version 2320230705 (23.0.0.36251). The game does start now, but in multiplayer I'm constantly getting Out Of Sync errors so it's still unplayable unfortunately.

As always, I urge everyone to open a support ticket so that they'll be updated when a fix is released. Our support team is also giving out a build with the fix to users with active support licenses.

I can confirm this is fixed and works beautifully in 23.0.0 beta 1.

No need for replacing dependencies, no need for installing extra stuff in the bottle. Just hit install and start playing. The dreaded multiplayer desync issue is also completely fixed for me. Framerate 2-3x of Parallels. I get about 120 fps on my M1 Max.

hey! It appears that August 16th is slated as the release date for Crossover 23!
I got this information directly from the Crossover support team when I asked about my current license upgrade.

I just downloaded CrossOver 23 and AoE II doesn't start from the Windows 10 bottle that I had used before. However, I can start Steam from a Windows 7 bottle and I'm downloading the game right now to see if that works.

Is anybody able to use a Windows 10 bottle, or do we need to keep using Windows 7 bottles until Steam support for Windows 7 runs out in 138 days?

The game starts now on a win 10 bottle/CrossOver 23, without any problems.
Gives me a benchmark score >1200 on a M1 Max on Ultra Settings. (on Parallels <800) Thank You :)

I also updated Crossover to v23, the game opens, but it crashes when I go to Options from the main menu. Is anybody having the same issue?

I set up a new Win 10 bottle, installed Steam and AoE II again, and everything works fine for me now.
