Adobe Reader 11 error

Operating system Ubuntu 18.04, Adobe 11 installed itself into a WinXP bottle, but after being open "empty" or with a document for a little bit, crashes with error message and quits working. Tried reinstalling with fresh download of Adobe 11 and still same result. Was working fine for about 1 month previously, even under Crossover trial version. Any help?

WinXP is becoming a little too deprecated... Have you tried installing it into a Win 7 bottle?

I have exactly the same problem.
Adobe Reader 11 had been running through crossover for YEARS without any issues.
At some point this April it stopped working: It can open any document and displays it for about 30 seconds, then crashes.
I didn't see any linux system update at that time.
I tried reinstallations in various ways, always with new bottles:

  • WinXP bottle as suggested, selecting at the end of installation all different options for the automatic update, thinking that it is perhaps a problem with contacting the update server 30 seconds into running. But even totally disabling the update feature doesn't help.
  • Windows 7 bottle.

My system: Centos 7, 64 bits.

It looks badly broken. I will play with other Acroread versions; # 5 seems to be ok but it's really old.

The latest I've been able to install and run successfully (since April) is Acrobat 8.

My impression (correct me if I'm wrong!) is that the more recent versions of Acrobat 11.x would install and run okay -- except that Adobe forces you to do the install via Adobe Download Manager and that doesn't work under Wine. (You just get a blank screen for the Download Manager, same as if you try installing Acrobat DC.) I would love suggestions on what to try for getting Acrobat 11.x or DC running!
