Acrobat 8.1

Anyone have an idea how to install Acrobat reader. I have tried several times and versions. The installer always stops after sim reboot. Also can anyone tell me if there is a way to view pdf files in ie6? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem. Acrobat reader 5 installs and works fine. However, I cannot get 8.1 to even install not matter which one I download. 8.1 is rated as bronze right? How have people tested it?

I was unable to get this to work in CrossOver Linux Professional version 7.0.2 / 7.1, so rated it 'Known not to work'. I tried it with 8.1.2 the latest 8.x version of the app (referred to as Adobe Reader these days).

Details:

The 'Install Windows Software' tool list of supported apps chooser only lists "Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0" i.e. not version 8.x. Results of attempting anyway:
1) Win98 bottle - attempting install of downloaded (8.1.2) version

  • Wine error dialog with "NOSSO(R) 1.0" in title bar and error: "To run this program one of the following operating systems with given minimal service pack is required: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (or later)" (NOSSO(R) is also displayed on bottom of Adobe Reader setup progressbar - which doesn't make it past 0%.)
Clicking OK on error dialog closes the Adobe installer; although CrossOver continues installing the plugins and simulates reboot anyway before reporting failure.

2) Win XP bottle - attempt with same downloaded version

  • The application's installer progress bar reaches 100%, though CrossOver reports an error occurred during installation w/log file etc. On trying to start the application from its icon in the (KDE) menu it starts but has a software license acceptance screen to accept/decline. The window is supposed to show the text of the license but doesn't nor do the buttons for accepting the license work. Because of that it is not possible to proceed further making the app unusable.

...But... XP bottle with Adobe Reader 9.0.0 does work. CrossOver still reports an app installation error at the end, but on running the program the license text displays and the 'accept' button works. (The accept license terms dialog box only appears on the first run of the app.) All PDF files open just fine.
