I just tried it and it DOES work! Then again, I've never had any trouble getting CS to INSTALL since version 4.0, and my problems have always been getting it to WORK afterwards. You have to choose "install unsupported app" and choose "Windows 2000" or "Windows XP" as the operating system to emulate. The install goes all the way through without any error messages on my machine.
Not to say it's perfect, however. No application icons are created. No file associations are created. Same as always in this department.
I can launch the app using this command line:
"~/cxoffice//bin/wine" --winver win2000 --workdir "C://Program Files//Adobe//Photoshop CS" --check --cx-app "C:////Program Files////Adobe////Photoshop CS////Photoshop.exe"
It launches and it is VERY slow to start (scanning for plugins is bad, scanning for presets is worse)--but for the first time in my experience, there are no errors. If you wait long enough, it comes up. I can also open, edit, and save a few pictures without any error messages at all, which is all very promising.
The only problems I notice are: you have to manually set up file associations and icons, the application launch is slow, the dialogs have some strange layout problems (for example, in the Save As dialog, everything seems shifted left and up--not enough to be unusable, but enough to be weird). But, technically, it works. I could use this application in its current state.
So why's my setup working? You tell me. I'm running a fairly standard SuSE 9.1 machine updated to KDE 3.4. The only odd thing I've done at all is I've edited the Abcpy.ini file in my Photoshop setup directory to embed the serial number. This is the standalone installer, not the version from the suite. Hope that helps. I've been bitten by saying "Bronze nomination" once before, so this time I'll say we're very close to an honorable mention.
