Adobe is giving Photoshop CS2 and some other goodies away for free - NOT REALLY

This is the Gizmodo article about it:

Seems someone at Adobe effed up and a lot of people thought they were giving stuff (even old stuff) away for free. Seems they are not but at this point, after the news spread like wild fire they might as well have.

It's back up at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html along with serial numbers and no registration necessary.

Adobe did say that this is an archival version only intended for people who have already purchased CS2. It's not a free giveaway.

Photoshop CS2 is the only app in the suite that we've ever tested and supported. I did download and install the Photoshop CS2 .exe from their site and go it to install and run.

The old problems of Photoshop's mini toolbars not working still exists in Crossover 12. A workaround is to open the Wine Config control panel of your Photoshop CS2 bottle, go to the Graphics tab, and uncheck Control & Decorate windows. The window layout will act weird, but you can at least use the buttons on the toolbars. Mac users can also try turning on the experimental Mac driver under the Advanced tab which seemed to help as well.

I think they realized that putting a plate with food in front of people, giving them fork a knife and then telling them "legally you cannot eat that food" is rather pointless and silly. The Mac binaries are not too valuable because they target the old G5 CPUs but the windows binaries are another story.

They probably cannot openly say "yo, come get some free stuff". They most likely licensed some bits and pieces from 3rd parties and don't have their permission to do such a thing so they play dumb and look the other way. PS CS2 is a very, very good piece of software.
