The only way to get this to work is to install .NET framework which won't install, everything else up to that point works.

The .NET framework (v1 & v2) are supported installs for
crossover standard/pro version 8.0 It might be a waste
of time, but you never know until you try. If it were going
to work like that, you would probably need to install the
.NET stuff before installing the app.
you need 3.5 which installs from the application which says you need to install 3.0 sp1 which doesn't work. But I will try once more.
ahh...I'm pretty sure .NET 3.x is not yet supported,
perhaps next release it'll appear in crossover
yeah my point exactly :) but hey if they support 3.5 and 4.0 in the next release I'll be happy but till then I will use parallels (my vmware sucks for ATI graphics cards in macs 3d acceleration doesn't work :) ). I like using crossover much more but since I need to run 3ds max I'll use parallels. Hopefully they'll add 3.5 support to crossover games as well (some games need it!). It would be nice if a crossover team member came and told me how to run and install 3.5 and 4.0.
There was a forum thread on this a couple of weeks back,
and a crossover team member said that we will have to
wait for .NET 3.x/4.x supports to be included in some
upcoming crossover release -- until then, these things
won't install...
...and, yeah...some games are appearing that need the
.NET hooks..(the horror, the horror ;)
...FWIW, I just had a peek over at wineHQ latest
release changelog (1.1.24), and it would appear
they're already bugfixing the .NET 3.x stuff, so
no doubt this will appear in crossover sometime
in the future...
.NEt 2.0 works perfectly but 3.0 just fails with a set up error. So no 3ds max 2010 for a while
wait! 3.5 is downloading the files so 3.5 might work :) (last time it didn't even download the files but it is now! :) )

now I'm having the error where it isn't downloading but I'll give it the rest of the day to see if it installs. If it does install I'll tell the community how to install it because I did do somethings to make it install (downloading not setup but other versions from microsoft)
Hey im getting this to install most of the way, but then it asks me to put in disk_1 so i mount it to a file called disk_1 in hope that it will read, but no such luck.

Currently the install for this fails calling at the step for installing the actual 3d studio max application. It errors out at that point for some reason which I am looking into.
I have gotten autodesk backburner to install. The issue resides in the way crossover deals with the shell installer. The actual underlying installer functions just fine as shown by the fact that just running the autodesk backburner installer separately functions just fine. Autodesk on the other hand doesn't allow you to run the installer for 3dsmax separate from the autorun installer which is what crossover has issue with.
