The Times Are a Changing
Uploaded By Jana Schmid on 2016-11-03 10:26:45

When did it hit me that the times were a changin’ at CodeWeavers corporate Headquarters (and no it wasn’t when Bob Dylan got awarded the Noble Peace Prize for Literature)? Maybe it was when we introduced CrossOver on a platform not in our sandbox – ANDROID. Or when we lost our COO of 14 years to a new career opportunity, or rearranged the office (everyone had to move offices and have a new office mate), or chalk painted furniture, or had an office pet for a day, or when the conference room moved, or the standard monthly company meeting date moved after 20 years in existence (revolution). AND we bribed attendance with bagels instead of donuts. Or was it when everyone went from a Linux or macOS to a Windows system?

Just checking to see if you are still awake. That didn’t happen.

Now we are experimenting with our Thursday lunch train AND OFFICE MUSIC. I mean what really could go wrong with tampering with two of the five senses of fourteen office employees?

Gone are the days of indulgent Chinese and Indian buffets. Whilst some relinquish in the days when the Thursday lunch train was as predictable as taxes, others have surrendered to the possibility of a palate full of Shepard pies and hot, fresh, made-to-order fried dough featuring sweet and savory toppings. Like a donut, but not a donut.

Gone are the days of deafening silence. Where you are left to ponder every decision in your life up to that point that made you sit in the
wordless world of corporate America. Whilst some are exercising their first amendment right through their preference in musical composition, other chose to bestow their first amendment with chummy banter or hostile clamor on change (climate, political, office).

So what does this all mean?

Gone are also the days that we hopelessly tried to register Microsoft Office 2013. You read that right people. Yesterday, we successfully registered Microsoft Office 2013 in a CrossOver 16 alpha build. We also:

— Open, create, edit, save and print Microsoft office documents
— Activate a copy of Microsoft Office 2013 wit ha product key or a 365 subscription
— Use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project

“Everyone at CodeWeavers is incredibly excited to see Microsoft Office 2013 installing, registering, and running in CrossOver. After four years of continued development, we are preparing to deliver support for the 2013 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project, in CrossOver 16 (due out later this year). And we hope that our development will continue making strides to include support for Outlook 2013 and Microsoft Office 2016 in the coming months.” — James Ramey, President

You would think with all this change that one, one of my co-workers would notice that I cut four to six inches off my hair.

That didn't happen.

So how do you make sure you don't miss the release of CrossOver 16 with support for Microsoft Office 2013 ( which includes Word 2013, Excel 2013 and PowerPoint 2013)? Sign up for the 'New CrossOver Release' event reminder.

That's great that Office 2013 will work in the near future, but what about Office 2016?

We are working on it!

I guess that the Office 365 page will just offer a download for the 2016 version now or is there a trick to make it install the 2013 version? I can test the Office 365 support through a work account, but I guess I need to find a 32-bit copy of the 2013 version for that.

Is there any need for testing Outlook 2013/2016 with an on-premise MS Exchange 2013? What about support for a domain joined system?

Thanks for the update! It will be interesting to try it all out! Should I try the nightlies already?

PS: ANROID->ANDROID

That is great, of how many stars is the rating for now?

Excellent job!! This sure will attract many with Office 365 subscriptions. I think it should be with a great marketing campaign. Something like "Run your Office 365 in Linux". Also OneDrive should work also for a complete experience.

Office 365 does have a way to let you install Office 2013 - you can get an installer for Office 2013 by logging into your Office 365 account and downloading one.

Fantastic!

Thanks! It seems you were just ahead of me when I posted that URL in the nightly forums! I understand that this installer also works (not just the offline one)?

I was literally just trying to install Office 2013 and 2016 yesterday, despite the fact that it says it doesn't work. Great timing!!!!! YAY!!! Looking forward to this release!

Tell me you didn't really show your product key to whole internet.

It looks like

Are there any plans to release a beta of the version in which Office 2013 is working so that those of us who want to be on the bleeding edge can help test?
