Five weeks ago we discovered that joysticks do not work on the Mac OS if they call for WinMM support. More specifically, five weeks ago we discovered that joysticks do not work for games like Final Fantasy VII and Vanguard Princess when they are running on the Mac OS. Although this had been broken for a very long time and reports of it were scattered across WineHQ, it had not really received any love.
It didn't take long for our developers, namely Ken, to put together a fix. His work has lived in Wine for about a month with additional fixes going in about three weeks ago.
This tangible improvement not only demonstrates our commitment to the Wine Project: "We contribute all of our work on Wine back to the Wine Project. We support many key Wine developers, who are making Wine into the technology that it needs to be."
It also shows how quickly an improvement to CrossOver can be implemented.
Although there is more work to be done on controller support; we are releasing CrossOver 14.1.1 with improvements to joystick support in games like Final Fantasy VIII and because WinMM support was improved, any older game which uses this should also benefit.
