Anti aliasing not working - Debian 12 / CX 23.7.0

Hi guys,

I am currently running CrossOver 23.7.0 on Debian 12.

So far, I have managed to install Office 2016, and mainly want to use Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Also, installed Photoshop CS2, and it all works like a charm, and I am super happy with it.

My only complaint is the jagged fonts; that is driving me nuts!

I did follow the instructions from here:

I have 'simulated a reboot' and even restarted my laptop with no luck.

I maybe completely off the mark here but.... have you tried:

In Terminal:
apt-cache search "microsoft truetype core fonts"
Response - “ttf-mscorefonts-installer - Installer for Microsoft TrueType core fonts”
sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
Document opens, using TAB highlight <OK> and enter; select <YES> and enter.
For better font rendering:
sudo ln -s /etc/fonts/conf.avail/10-autohint.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d/

Then:
Crossover post install:
sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa:i386 libxrandr2:i386 libnss-mdns:i386
sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers:i386 libvulkan1 libvulkan1:i386 vulkan-utils

and:

Then check for any missing files/plugins:

  1. sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix --auto
  2. sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxdiag
    If missing files/plugins try:

So far I have tried the below:

1 - changing regedit keys

Created a font.reg file on my home user directory with the following contents:

REGEDIT4

"FontSmoothingOrientation"=dword:00000001
"FontSmoothingType"=dword:00000002

Went to CX, Right-click on the bottle > Run Command > "regedit /home/guy/font.reg"
Reboot, then double-check that the values are all there as they should be by simply running "regedit".

2 - Adding more fonts to Debian

Copied the TTF, TTC, and OTF files from Win11 ( C:/Windows/Fonts ) and installed on Debian.
If you don't have the fonts webarchive should have them all in a zip file.

sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/share/fonts/Win11
sudo cp -Rvf fonts/Win11/* /usr/local/share/fonts/Win11
sudo fc-cache -f -v

sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config
sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig
reboot

3- installed missing CX deps

By running "sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxdiag" I have noticed a few missing deps - eg below:

Installed them all until I saw CX no more "Missing" anything.

4 - run the auto-fix tool

As suggested - the command is this:

sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix --auto

Output was:

Distribution: Debian 12 64-bit (debian12)
Product: cx23
There is no issue to fix

Then afterward I rebooted my laptop.
It has improved a bit, but still not 100% there.

5 - switch from Wayland to XOrg

Logout/Reboot > When logging in > click on your user > there will be a cog/settings icon ( bottom right ).
I have then selected "Gnome on XOrg" > put your password in > login and enjoy!
