I installed a game, which when ran for the first time, it loaded into fullscreen mode (no menu bars, etc).
When I exited the game, it displayed a pop-up window with a link to their website.
Now when I load the game, it loads in windowed mode. Any ideas on how I get it back into full screen mode?
The game involved is rFactor.
When it was installed, the game's config set the resolution to 800x600 (The computer runs at 1280x800), yet it displayed at full screen.
Now, even though the resolution is the same, the game only loads in Window mode.
EDIT: A search on Google suggests trying to use winecfg in the bottle manager and changing the bottle's screen resolution to the same as the machine - Has anyone else come across this?
...if you installed via crosstie (and were paying attention), you
would have seen the following install notes...
"For maximum install compatibility, Emulate a Virtual Desktop is enabled during installation @ 1024x768. If you wish to try running this title fullscreen, please disable 'Emulate a virtual desktop' in the Wine Configuration GUI.
Do not run rFactor at the end of installation - exit the installer instead to allow the Crosstie process to complete necessary tasks."
..my guess is you didn't observe those notes, and started the game
-before- it had time to complete the necessary tasks, and so the
emulated virtual desktop setting didn't take effect until the 2nd
time it was launched (which is exactly what those install notes were
trying to help you avoid)...
...I believe all you have to do is -disable- emulated virtual desktop in
the Wine Configuration GUI, and then start rFactor and adjust it's graphics
setting to suit your setup...
Thanks for that - I found this out last night as well.
For reference to everyone else who may encounter this: I did install it via CrossTie and allow it to do it's thing before launching it, but the game's config and registration apps forced it into a virtual desktop, hence why it switched from the default full screen to the window mode.
Once I'd altered the wine config and manually unchecked the 'Enable in virtual desktop' option, it worked properly each time.
Okay, but -no- ; an app cannot force the emulate virtual desktop
setting of it's own accord -- only a crosstie profile and/or manual
intervention can alter that setting (default is off, but the rfactor
crosstie I do set it on for compatibility reasons)...
..and no, unfortunately it's very unlikely that your advice will be
seen by rfactor users, because you've posted in the general forum and
not rfactor's forum (the title of this thread doesn't refer to rfactor)..
...you can ask the Ninjas to move the thread if you like (they will),
else, it'll just be another grape on the vine that withers and dies... =)
Cheers!
