I downloaded Steam and was able to register a account. But later on when I try to connect to steam it keeps telling me it cannot connect to steam network because I am not connected to the internet(which I am). Can anyone help me please?

The Steam network can fail to respond from time to time. Best thing to do is wait awhile and try again, maybe restarting the computer would help.
I have the same problem.
I happen to know that the steam network is functioning. I can run steam on boot camp, and it connects properly.
However, TF2 doesn't work well with boot camp, and so I run TF2 using crossover.
The problem has persisted ever since I got cross over registered. It worked fine (with one exception) when I was running the demo.
Restarting the computer does nothing.
