2nd Example: Pendulumania. I love this super simple game. Considering it is rather old I think it couldn't be too hard for Wine or Crossover to get it working, but I'm not terribly technically knowledgeable. The game does not work in Vista though, only Windows 2000 and XP. It would be great if we could point to a fun, free game that works in Wine or Crossover that does not work in Vista or Win7. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=17515
Any chance I could get a Wine/Crossover developer to look into Pendulumania to see if it is something easy or reasonable to fix?
Best idea here (seeing as these will be/are unsupported titles), is to make
sure they have a C4 compatibility database entry - one title you mention does
so already...see;
This is the best way to gain attention from folks willing to have a look - it
also helps keep any test results/debug logs under each specific game's C4 entry
rather than talking about 2 games 'hidden' in a general form thread like this.
I'll have a look at Pendulumania and post my findings on it's C4 page linked
to above -- if you submit Starwars Battle of Endor into the C4 database, I'll
have a look at it as well -- I can't promise anything (fixes) but I will have
a look to see it there's anything immediately obvious/apparent in debug...
I tested both games with Crossover Games 9.1 on Linux, using the "Run a Windows Command" to where I have each installed in my Wine directory. Neither works currently, just like in Wine. I requested to become an Advocate, so I can post test data.
If the game were running better, I may have posted the instructional
part into a tip&trick (actually I wouldn't, see below), but typically
I leave tips&tricks for 'better' things ie; how to optimize or get a game
running much better. Game issues or problematic reports are more the
fodder for the forums page so people can exchange/discuss different ideas
towards solving an issue...tips&tricks isn't really for that.
I've been a little remiss here and failed to answer your question in
<subject> line -- yes, the newly introduced C4P install system can be
configured/used to download and install games such as these, and do
other things as well (like all those bits&pieces I mention in the
Pendulumania forum posting)...but you'll need to wait for your advocates
approval and after that post to the following thread asking for C4P access;
Note: you won't be able to see that link until you -are- an advocate.
Cheers!
