I also tried installing the Core Fonts package into the bottle as suggested in some forum somewhere; also no effect.
Any ideas?

PS: Also, I couldn't make a ticket because the ticket system says I have Crossover Mac, but I don't have a Mac. I would appreciate it if someone could fix that.

I solved it -
go to crossover menu and run regedit as a "windows command"
add this HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\X11 Driver
and add the following lines: "ClientSideWithRender" = "N"
then exit regedit
