Hi there,
We don't have any plans to allow different Wine versions to be used with a given CrossOver version. There are two main reasons for this:
CrossOver uses a fork of Wine that includes a set of patches that allows more applications to run than vanilla Wine. Rebasing those patches for each Wine release every two weeks isn't a trivial task for our development team.
We don't have the bandwidth to dedicate testing and support. Our QA teams runs through extensive test plans for multiple applications across many platforms every time we release CrossOver with a Wine version bump to ensure compatibility. We offer paid support for our product, and our support team also puts a lot of effort into troubleshooting and reproducing user-reported issues as they come in. If we introduce new variables like allowing the use of other Wine versions with CrossOver, we wouldn't be able to maintain our rigorous standards for compatibility testing and support.
Best,
Meredith
