CHIRP / USB Port

UPDATED:

I'm a newbie but have successfully installed CrossOver on my HP Chromebook. I've also installed CHIRP, a Windows app for programming Ham Radios.

It requires use of a USB cable connected to the radio and selection on the USB port in order to complete the connection.

But Crossover doesn't seem to recognize the USB port .... nothing comes up in the drop-down menu when I try to select a port.

  • I understand now there is not hardware support through Crossover but there might be a workaround by remapping the ports ...

Any ideas?

My understanding is that unfortunately CrossOver is not designed to interface with hardware, only software. If you search the forums for USB, you will find that USB device support is an issue. There are a few posts about getting some sort of USB to Serial working and/or doing symbolic linking at the OS level that may work (you might want to start here to explore this).

macOS, Linux
Wine 3 added USB HID; IIRC USB CDC was in late model Wine 2.
IIRC, Chrome OS will create a tty device for USB CDC.

USB CDC appears to be no-go for Chrome OS but USB HID may work :
