I had to tweak a few of the config files to get it fully functional and have test compiled 5 applications so far with no problems to report.
If enough interest is shown, I will consider either an article or a bat file wrapper to perform the very minor changes needed to enable the full functionality. I doubt this would be of interest to phone or tablet clients but works well on RemixOS for PC and should work equally well on chromebooks that have enough storage space. Remix OS includes a ADB Server so I was to take advantage of compile and test on the fly.. A far improvement over using the AVD emulator. I'm sorry I didn't see your post. Regarding the java issue..
I created a new bottle and installed Java SE 7.. Not Jdk. Once installed, The Oracle installer offers to upgrade it to the current SE 8.xx.
Once that happens, The Android studio installer will work. The studio package has it's own version of the JDK already included in the package but needs anative Java client installed to kick
I'm sorry I didn't see your post sooner. Regarding the java issue..
I created a new bottle and installed Java SE 7.. Not Jdk. Once installed, The Oracle installer offers to upgrade it to the current SE 8.xx.
Once that happens, The Android studio installer will work. The studio package has it's own version of the JDK already included in the package but needs a native Java client installed to kick it's own installation to start.. I noted fixes to various files to get it working right.. Just as an FYI. None of that maybe needed as long as the android studio package is unzipped using 7-zip manager for windows in a Crossover Session. I had used winzip for android for the original test and it appears to have mangled a few files .. I ultimately had to modify the names of various .xml files to recover the install..
It was nice to hear from someone. I posted this on XDA developers as well with little response.. Let me know if that solves it for you..
THANK YOU!!! I've been trying to get this thing to work the whole day!!! We seriously need more devs like you!!! I'm trying the installing java 7 to upgrade right this second. Thank you so much!!! Your help heavily appreciated!!!
I'm using a Chromebook R11 and want to upgrade to a Spin 11, this was holding me back!!! You rock :)
Ps: pls post any other changes you made :) I want to learn to code with Android Studio and Flutter and Dart but don't want a windows laptop, I love my Chromebook and already have a Desktop with Win10
Let me give an update to those watching this thread. Only 32bit versions are able to be used. also after receiving several updates to my install. It appears to have broken something.
I just so happen to be updating my equipment to PrimeOS as RemixOS is no longer being developed as an Android x64/PC OS. I'm going to cleanup and post instructions soon.
In related news, Google is currently porting android Studio for use on ChromeOS. I didn't see a timeline or if that means it is going to work on Intel Android devices and OS's.
Given the news, I still don't want to wait and will take another try @ installing the latest version on Crossover/WINE this time I'll log every step since the first time was affected greatly by WinZip for android when many of the file names in various folders were truncated.
