DoW: Soulstorm through steam

Has anyone gotten the game to run through steam? On my iMac it stalls when launching, regardless of the launch properties i use. (-dxlevel 81 -window) - i tried with 8 and 9 in dxlevel too. no difference.
The game runs fine when i have it installed in another bottle without steam. I'd just prefer to use steam so i can get updates without having to go downloading cracks for the copy protection.

Is this a Source engine game? Those launch options are typical of Source engine games but are probably meaningless to other games.

Maybe there's a configuration file from your non-Steam bottle that you can copy to your Steam bottle. The appropriate place would be somewhere inside .../drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps.

There are a couple threads for this game saying the same thing. Not a source engine game, this game was done by THQ and shoehorned into STEAM.

DoW, WA, and DC all launch and give the "configuring your video device" screen. Soulstorm does not. Not using the STEAM install at any rate. Tried the CD version and it works beautifully, with the fog of war problem fixed even :) I'm just really lazy and like using STEAM to manage my junks.

I've checked against the W40k.ini and it's the same across all the mods. I'm guessing it's not getting that far since it never launches the video configurator.

At this point i would love to just play the game. How did you get the disk version to play, i can't get past the cd requirment??? HELP. I know it probibly simple, but i cant figure it out!

Oops, you will probably not be able to see that. Here's the cut and paste:

[i]Checking back in, I actually got this to work.

The problem with the game is that the VCRedist installer does not work correctly
for it. Basically, to make it work, I copied the MSVCRT80 dlls and manifests
from another install. It's tricky because you have to use the exact same
version of the redistributable, or edit the version number in the manifest.

Once I did that, it started.

This is a bit dicey and the ideal solution is to have the VCRedist install the
MSVC runtime correctly. Not sure why it is failing, but my guess is that if you
can figure that out, a bunch of THQ/Relic's games may magically start working.
It would be pretty cool to get Company of Heroes and friends up and running.
