wont install from disk

hey there im running ubuntu 9.04 with cx games and office, and i can get the installer to do anything. anyone got any tips.
if not i could try installing from windows...

{more info}
ok so im trying to run it in bottle winxp from the iso.
now it starts up fine, then goes through the install setup. untill the progress bar comes up.
then it does nothing. and more nothing. cant close it unless i do a reboot.

This is only a guess, but you may have to install the following
LIVE redistributable package into the bottle before installing the
game itself;

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=9b3d84ca-15ef-4652-b7ad-540a25a38f89

In the tips&tricks the above package is mentioned, but the poster
then was referring to the LIVE redistributable 1.2 release -- I've
no idea if the 3.0 LIVE release works on COG, but it might be worth
a try...

Cheers!

it requires 3.5 .net framework :(

ok no i have made the installer work but it gets half way through the install process. then i get an error:
feature transfer error error: -1627 ERROR_FUNCTION_FAILED .
is anyone else getting this, or know of a way around it?

I got this same issue trying to install with wine. i cant seem to find anything on google when i search "Wine -1627 ERROR_FUNCTION_FAILED " hard to find anything useful. wish some butt thats gotten it to work to post a good how too guide. lol but if i find something to get it work ill try to remember to post what i did. lol

I might try to install Xp on a virtualbox install it and then copy the director over see if that helps :D lol

Update: People say it works so idk if this info will help im trying something like installing PhysX from wine-tricks. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9924

Hi,

This sounds like a problem with visual c++ runtime -- do you have
any of the microsoft visual c++ redistributable packages installed
into the same bottle? If not, the suggestion is to install the
microsoft visual c++ 2005 redistributable (after removing the
vcrun dll files installed by the game installation process) -
this is all on the WineHQ page...see;

Cheers!

Thanks for the information ill look into it. However I think I wanna cry. It says install Trials first so im doing that and just say saying 5hours (Me DSL User) And why I wanna cry is if the others are gonna be like that. on winetricks it says on SP1 to install trial 1st. So I guess ill let them run and goto bed. lol

But I hope it be worth it I love Linux but tired of windows but I also wanna blow people apart. lol
