Microphone Issues and server disconnects w/ TF2 (CXG 7.2.2)

Hello!

When I attempt to use the microphone to voice chat while in TF2, I an unable to do so. A look at the settings screen shows everything checked the way it should, but when I click "test microphone" it starts then immediately stops the test. Any idea why?

Also, I get randomly disconnected during play. I would be playing and then the game would seemingly freeze and a red countdown in the upper right hand corner would start ticking down until I was disconnected.

Any assistance would be great!

Are you holding down the voice chat key while speaking (v by default)?
If so, there might be a problem with getting Wine to notice your microphone. Try out your mic in other CrossOver apps.

Hmm, when I get diconnected, usually it' just a sucky internet connection. I fyour inter connection isn't very fast or disconnects a lot, even if the disconnects are short, that might be to blame. Next time see if you can change your computer's network preferences so the Internet works again before it diconnects, you'll have 30 seconds.

Yeah, V doesn't work. I don't have much else to test my mic with in crossover... any recommendations?

Well, try GSC, it's a gaming chat program. And it's unlikely, but maybe you set a custom key for the voice chat, check the keyboard settings.

Well, GSC can't recognize my audio input device OR output device. Audio works just fine in TF2, its just I can't voice chat. V is still the key used to transmit voice.

I used to have the same issues. I heavily encourage you to update to CXGames 8 BETA. That will fix your "Randomly Crashing" problem. And with great pain and some BIOS hacking and patching I was able to get my USB XLR mic to work with TF2. Though it has been reported that I sound like I'm "talking through a fan".

If you give me your OS number (e.g. Ubuntu 9.04 or Mac OSX 10.4) and all speaker and USB model info, I might be able to help you. :)

Hmmm that sucks. Yeah, audio output in GSC is weird for me, too, it gets really distorted. Stephen Scott probably knows more about this stuff.

Um. Not to get off-topic but... Pardon me, but where is the CrossOver Games 8 BETA?
Do you have to be a paying customer to use it?
Also, in the other "TF2 broken again" thread Stefan said that float textures won't work on a GMA X3100. I'm unaware what those are >.> Are they important?

You have to be an advocate. Being an advocate requires buying at least one CrossOver product, and you have to be willing to help improve the software actively as well. Also, not everyone can be an advocate, it depends on your account's record and stuff. Then once you're an advocate, you'll have access to betas and alternate versions and some other stuff.
