TF2 broken again

It seems like today's update broke TF2 again. It plays the video, then exits. Anyone else having this problem? (This also seems to happen with Garry's Mod btw)

I am having the same problem as well. Frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Best,

wrc

Awww crap, really?
I can't even get to the loading screen. All my Steam games are "unavailable." I know it may be off-topic, but could this be related to the TF2 update? (My other Orange Box games are getting the same problem, though.)

Same problem here. I tried to put the -dxlevel to 91 but nothing happened. Still crashed at the loading screen.

Sigh

Yep yep. I see the splash screen briefly then it exits.

Looks like another quick patch for crossover! First sourcemod, now crossover again...Valve seems to like breaking things lately D:

Relevant info: TF2 via Crossover Games 7.2.2 on Mac OSX 10.5.8

Played just fine earlier today before the update, but since the update I can't play it :/

Ya i am having this same problem, I noticed that if you get rid of the -novid launch command. It plays the opening vid and then closes.

-update-
I tried reinstalling the game and nothing different and i also found the reason for the crashes. Todays update switch from directx 8 to directx 8.1 which means you need dx9 (i believe).

-FOUND A FIX-

1 run steam

2 right click tf2 and open launch options

3 type "-dxlevel 91"

4 run the game (the game may crash at the loading screen at that point i don't know what to do

5 open up console and type "mat_dxlevel 80"

6 now play tf2

It's down to TF2 bugginess and has nothing to do with CxG. The official TF forums are littered with complaints over DirectX 8.1 players getting hosed. VALVe just issued another patch -- try updating and see if it fixes your issues.

I'm waiting for the patch to finish and to see how it works under CxG 8beta.

Applied the update -- no more crashing, at least with CxG 8beta. However, I can't join any servers, as the update seems to affect the dx80 water texture, which most VAC servers seem to enforce. So, until the server ops get around to updating their servers, I'm out of luck. sigh

ya im getting this to and i also notice that my video settings reseted, and whenever i change them my keyboard becomes unresponsive to the game

The new patch seems to work just fine for me. Again, I'm on CxG 7.2.2, OSX 10.5.8. Thanks, valve, for getting this taken care of :)

Shoot, I downloaded the latest patch, started the game and loaded a server normally, and when it was done loading it gave me a black screen instead of the game. :|

Is this still not fixed for some people?

How do i check my CxG, and im still not able to change my video settings without the game getting really glitchy

It's working again now with the new patch.

ahghg still not working for me. I have to add -dxlevel to the launch preference for it to start, but it still wont remember my graphic settings and when i change it the keyboard becomes unresponsive to the game.

Remove the dxlevel after the first successfull start. It will remember it, and allow you to set your settings again.

Btw, in cxgames 8(currently in beta) we're switching TF2 to dxlevel 90/95 finally. That should avoid the cases where Valve breaks dxlevel 81 accidentally.

Not all Mac GPUs support dxlevel 95 unfortunately, those will use dxlevel 90. The Intel GMA 945 ones might even fall back to 81, I think they do that on Windows. The GMA X3100 GPUs lack driver support for float textures. OpenGL 1.2 only, plus shader extensions(This is a DX10 GPU Apple!). Radeon X1600 cards support only 128 fragment shader constants(Apple, those cards support 256 in hardware!), and we cannot claim Shader Model 3.0 support with less than 256 vertex and fragment shader constants.

On Linux you get dxlevel 95 on ATI and NV GPUs that have HW support(Geforce 6+, ATI Radeon X1000+). Geforce 5 and radeon 9500-X999 should have dxlevel 90. Intel GPUs with the Mesa driver usually don't even start TF2 successfully :-/

I put the dxlevel in the launch command and the game starts. Once it starts i remove the -dxlevel from the launch option and change my graphic settings to my liking. Then after a few games i close the game. However, when i go back to play, the game wont start so i have to add -dxlevel again (which resets my graphic settings) to the launch options in order for it to start. The game seems not to be able to remember to keep it at dx level 81

Wow, all I did was keep TF2 updated and it worked today for some reason. It opened the menu, loaded a server, and started playing normally. I didn't play it that much, though, so I can't tell if there are other errors I didn't see.

@Stefan Dösinger
Hmmm, but there is a beta for CG 8 now? I don't see it in my advocate account, maybe it's private or something.

Yeah, and I have no idea what I did. :|
I'm running CG 7.2.2 on Mac OS 10.5.8 (Leopard) with TF2 opened from Steam and running max size in windowed mode.

There was an announcement on the advocates forum about this, but... see;
