TF2 on Macbook 3.1?

Uh hi, I recently signed up on this site and I'm very new to CrossOver...
I know this forum "isn't a support forum" but I read that non-customer tickets won't be read and I'm trying the trial of CrossOver Games... the newest: 7.2.2
I've looked all over the web and noone seems to be running on a Macbook 3,1... I've read the tips but nothing seems to work...
So, I'm trying to play TF2 with:
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
And a Intel GMA X3100 graphic card...
Everyone seems to run fine on Mac Pros and 2GB macbooks but I don't have either...
So, my settings, by default were already really low... and I've tried the -dxlevel 80 thing to no avail...
Er. I'd post them but my post is already pretty long. Well, if anyone DOES get back to me it'll probably be awhile for my reply... I'm sorry if this is a duplicate thread... and/or in the wrong place.
Oh also this seems to already be in the "launch options" for TF2 properties:
-novid +mat_hdr_level 0

Are you using the Steam downloaded version or the disc version? Downloading it from Steam either alone or a pack (like The Orange Box) should work fine. I'm not sure if the CD/DVD version works, though.

I'm using the steam version.
Also, I forgot to explain that my problem is that its always crashing...
And there's no error message, it just crashes.

Yikes, that's weird. It's probably more technical, then. Sorry, I'm not sure how to fix it, but try the tips and tricks page

hello (:

as seen from the few threads .. There are many technical issues related with Tf2
for example
CAudioSourceMemWave (xxx): GetDataPointer() failed
this error is already noted

Um..i am not too sure what is your problem but..
i will try to help

Um..lets start..soo
Which part of the game do you crash in?
Can you start your own server without crashing?
How bout trying to run it in windowed mode by adding -sw to launch option...additonaly you could use -h x and -w x where h is height and w is width and x is the size yoy want it to be in windowed mode.

Um..ya..(:

Ooooo. Sorry, not to go off topic, but I was wondering how to resize the window with launch options. Does the order matter? and I guess to get the largest window you'd just put in your screen's x width and it's y height in pixels minus the dock and menu bar?

Well let's see... I was cruising the web for help again so they suggested to use this in launch options:
-heapsize 524288 -dxlevel 81 -width 640 -height 480 -window -novid
I don't really understand heapsize but it doesn't seem to help. Then, I learned how to check the fps using console and I got around 10-20 or lower...
So, I made a autoexec.cfg file using textedit (don't have notepad on mac...) and made sure it was a .cfg and not cfg.txt to try to increase fps... hoping it might help crashing as well.
Alright, just played for awhile on an empty server. It ran very smoothly, got about 30-70 fps =D, and didn't crash. Usually it crashes in high-traffic areas...
Also, its always in windowed mode so yes, I have tried that... I'm now going to play in a server with people in it and I'll see what the console says if/when it crashes.

Its still crashing at weird times... Whether it be someone in the distance shoots, the round changes, the announcer says something while someone else does...
I don't know HOW to isolate the problem...
I guess I'll just wait for the 8.0 release that is supposedly in beta.
Unless anyone has:
Any specific suggestions e.g. Put " " in the same bottle! or: set launch options to:" " or: put " " in the tf2 console
Any feedback that can confirm TF2 WORKS without weird crashing on a 1 GB of RAM comp. and preferably a Macbook 3,1...
ANY SUGGESTION AT ALL
Also, to change window size use: -width number here -height number here

Well, Steam and TF2 should be in the same bottle, but they probably are already. And did you look at the tips and tricks page? Some of them could fix your crash. And thanks for the tip.

...Yes, of course they're in the same bottle.
And yes, those tip and tricks don't help me.
And your welcome...

Note that CrossOver 7.2 is pretty much broken on GMA X3100 cards. CrossOver 8 should be better.

The GMA X3100 driver has a number of bad bugs. I have two reproducible bugs that cause the system to crash - one crashing the window server, and one crashing the entire kernel. I reported them to Apple, and I really hope they fix them soon. Any kernel crash bug can potentially be exploited to gain root privileges :-/
(Reported them a few weeks before 10.5.8, so far they're not fixed)

EDIT: CrossOver Games 8 I mean - its currently in beta.

Thanks so much... I was about to install more RAM because I was that desperate... That wouldn't really help would it?

Well...It may help..Note the MAY help

As Tf2 recommands an at least of 1 gig worth of ram , i found it nearly impossible to play tf2 due to the memory leak .. it kept eating into my swap ..making the whole thing lag...
But now..i upgraded to 4 gig of ram..as much as 32 bit can hold :D

Wel..its always worth a try...furthermore more ram is always good provided your proccesser is good enough to support it. :)
