Steam version only?

By Steam version only, does it mean that this game will only work if I download it from the Steam application? I'd really rather buy it from the store, our internet connection is not that good and it'll take days to download this game.

Steam version as in game must be started from steam and NOT standalone

If you buy it from the store, it still uses Steam. There's no such thing as Team Fortress 2 running standalone, as far as I'm aware.

CrossOver will let you install Steam and TF2 from the store-bought DVD. In the list of supported packages, there's a "Steam via CD/DVD" entry. Use that.

The store-bought copy may save you some download time, but probably not much. Valve frequently updates Steam and the games that run within it. So, it will download a bunch of updates for TF2. Depending on how long the box has been sitting on the store shelf, the updates may be nearly total -- it may need to download as much data as if you originally installed via download. Still, it may be worth saving what you can.

If you buy Tf2 from the store you must create or login to your steam account through steam so unless you torented it yes you must still use steam

Non-steam is hacked hard to get, illegal, never up to date (useless). So it's pointless if you don't want to buy TF2, you will never get to play it.

Well...heard of Garena ? :P

Does Garena work via CrossOver? Installation went fine on my CrossOver but after launching it, I can see the icon jumping up and down in the dock then it dissapears.

um...well...i am suppose to be the advocate for Garena ...and to tell you truthfully ..Garena's performance on Crossover game 7.2.2 is barely functional...

Hey, dude, you're an advocate, so why not try it out in CxG 8 RC1? Go to the beta center.

When i said 7.2.2 i was refering to those people who did not have access to the beta or rc

Oh, ok, sorry.
