A few TF2 problems

When I first installed Crossover Games, the program, not Steam, was highly problematic. It wouldn't leave the dock when I quit out of it, It was constantly crashing, it would never update, it was a mess. So I reinstalled the program hoping to clear up these problems and it did, but what I got was an even worse problem. Every time I started to play TF2, about 15 seconds into the game, the whole game would crash and freeze repeating the same one second of sound until I quit. I'd like to know if this is a bug in the latest update or if it's just some weird thing that spontaneously happened.

I'd also like to know how I can improve the graphical quality of the game. I.E. moving faces and shinier, better looking graphics. Right now my game has rather bland, non glossy graphics and characters that keep the same creepy facial expression. Is this an issue of my Mac's graphics card or is this just how Crossover Rolls?

Thanks.

If you have a Intel GMA X3100 that's either a driver bug or a bug in CrossOver. I still don't know for sure. I have such a card now, but could not isolate the problem yet.

Otherwise, there is probably something wrong. Either a genuine CrossOver bug, or some Mac driver or kernel extension breaks crossover on your system.

At this stage we set TF2 to dxlevel 81 instead of 90 or 95 because of driver bugs and performance concerns. The Mac graphics drivers have improved since. They're not yet perfect, but we're trying to meet them half way and see if we can get dxlevel 90/95 on by default in the next crossover release.

See the TF2 ticks and tricks in the application database if you want to override the default settings and try dxlevel 95 with the current release.

Can I expect to see the problem fixed in a future update?

As of the last update (June 10) with the latest crossover games TF2 crashes in ~15 mins of play or so maybe less. I have a macbook pro from 2008 non unibody. Latest osx version as well. It was much more stable until today and nothing has changed besides this update.

You mean a Steam or TF2 update? Or some MacOS or CrossOver update? (We haven't released anything the last weeks fwiw)

Steam update .. thats the only real thing that changed .. rebooted and same thing <10 mins of play and it dies.
Never had it happen before.

Hmm. Runs stable here. (On my X3100 mac with the X3100 fixes I am currently working on). Anyone else having problens since today?

When crossover games 7.2 came out I was having a lot of problems with games crashing so I switched back to 7.1... I just went through the steam update with no problems and was playing TF2 with no problems last night. You could give that a try... I am on an Imac and I think you would have to uninstall steam and completely get rid of the current version of crossover games you are using.

Sad that the game specific product is such a mess yet crossover proper runs it just fine.
I guess crossover games is to be avoided since it seems to be unable to play games lol.

It's true that Crossover games has been a bit unloved by our (small) development team while we've been pushing to release Crossover Office 8.0.

However, as I was just playing TF2 on my iMac (ATI x1600) with Crossover Games not 5 minutes ago, I dispute the assertion that it's unable to play games.

Overall CX Games is quite stable with the games we support (and many that we don't), but between frequent game updates, OS updates, and variances between graphics hardware, there are a lot of bases to cover with the games product and sometimes several problems will occur at once. Our staff (which is, again, quite small) does their best to deal with these issues as quickly as possible as soon as they're identified (and this is why we pay close attention to the forums).

Was that with Crossover Games 7.2 or 7.1? I have never been able to run 7.2 properly... meaning TF2 crashing 10 seconds into play and Half-life 2 and the subsequent episodes not loading at all. But, 7.1 runs perfectly fine. I think Crossover Games 7.1 is just great. One more question... do you know when or if there will be more attention paid to crossover games then, and if that'll be just bug fixes or helping get some other games to work for it?

I have been experiencing the same problems since i patched to 7.2.

I get a game lockup and boots me out of TF2 about max 5 to 10 mins in a game. Bam - i am looking at the mac screen. restart load it back up pick a server.....5 mins in ...bam back out again. Extremely frustrated since it had been fairly stable with only the occasional boot out of a server NEVER not a complete game crash like i am experiencing now.

Now how do i reinstall 7.1 crossover?

Go to Account->My downloads->archived downloads to download cxgames 7.1.

That said, which Graphics card do you have? If you have an X3100, the issue is known. Otherwise, I'd like to debug it further.

At least you guys can get in-game! I launch TF2 and it just hangs on the "loading" screen. Latest CXGames for Linux under Ubuntu 9.04, nVidida 9800M GTS graphics card.

I was able to get the game to load once, which was right after the update. But I got no sound. I closed out and tried to run it again, and this is the result. Rebooted and everything, no dice.

I have Radeon X1600 and Crossover games 7.2 does not work.

We've just released cxgames 7.2.2 which has two fixes for the problems introduced by this Steam update. Please give it a try.

For now its a silent release without a release notes or automatic update fanfare because we've released it late in the evening.

A CrossOver Games 8 release should come in the next weeks as well, hopefully(Famous last words)

I'm having a similar problem.

Steam is being incredibly annoying, it takes ages to load up (keep in mind, all my other applications except for Crossover Games are not running while I'm doing this.) When it FINALLY loads up, I click on Team Fortress 2 to launch, and so it does (taking about a minute to do so). Then it brings me to the game's loading screen, and takes about a long minute to load. I've tried to bring this game into a window, but when I do, it all of a sudden only appears in the bottom left of the screen, and the rest of the screen is just black. So then I go onto the server list, and the screen starts glitching like MAD. Strange dots of colour, and dots and lines flashing across the screen, it looks INCREDIBLY dodgy. So I'll wait about a minute for the server list to stop refreshing, and I'll click on one. Now one of two things happens here: It either has a little window pop up and says something like "Server could not be found/connected" and it won't connect. Or, it brings up that window for a fraction of a second and then goes onto the "Loading server" screen. However when that window pops up for that small amount of time, it does actually say "Server could not be found/connected." Anyway, when I get onto the loading screen, another two things could happen here: It either stops loading at three bars and freezes, or it loads for a bit longer until a sign comes up saying "You are on your way to ..." I have never reached the actual battle ever, which is incredibly disappointing because I waited 2 months to buy the Orange Box, and when I finally do, I can't even play it.

However, what I don't get is that Portal (also from the Orange Box) works completely fine, with no framerate issues, the graphics are great and except for crashing every 15-30 mins and a few problems with the subtitles, you would assume every other game would be as good as that (performance-wise). I have not installed the Half-Life games yet, they take up too much memory.

I NEED ANSWERS PLEASE!

P.S A lot of people have been talking about boot camp being great and all, but doesn't that cost hundreds of dollars? Educate me please lol
