Problem launching TF2

I'm sorry if this has been asked already or if the answer is somewhere on the site but I'm running a Macbook Pro 17" with a nVidia Geforce 8600M GT. When I attempt to launch TF2 I get a warning telling me that my video drivers appear to be out of date and could cause problems if I choose to continue and run the game. It offers me a link to update my card, but I'm unsure what to do at that point exactly as none of the options on the next page correspond to my card.

Also when I chose to continue TF2 wont even launch.

I'm not sure what to do at this point and would really like to know what I can do here. Any help would be appreciated.

The video driver warning is a false warning. It happens because the MacOS driver numbers are different from the Windows driver numbers, that confuses steam. It surely has nothing to do with TF2's startup problems.

Regarding the starting problems, can you try to disable the in-game community integration in Steam? This sometimes causes problems.

I've gone to File->Settings. Selected the "In Game" tab and unchecked "Enable Steam Community In Game". Attempted to launch TF2 and I get a screen flicker but no game launches.

Ok so I removed the default launch options and put in -fullscreen -width 1680 -height 1050 to match my mbp's res, TF2 launched and I was able to select a server, upon connecting TF2 just froze at the chalkboard briefing screen.

Any ideas?

It just seems to be one problem after the other.

Just read a solution lower down on the page that indicates that it may be because of TF2 trying to activate IE, I'm going to try to install it and see if that fixes this issue.

Ok so fantastic news, so far I've gotten everything to run properly using some luck and research here on the forum.

Things seem to run relatively smooth.

The graphics seem pretty dark though and adjusting the ingame brightness doesn't really remedy this at all. I also have my LCD screen brightness cranked to the max. Everything in game seems rather dark still.

I guess if given enough time I might also find the solution to this. lol

BUT if anybody reads this who knows something I don't, please, fill me in on possible fixes.

The gamma control is known not to work because CrossOver doesn't forward the gamma settings to MacOS yet. But you can use any MacOS app that can change the gamma, it will affect the game as well.
