TF2 crashes when i join server

Hi dudes

cool product you got here, and from what i managed to get working it seems to be on the right tracks for not needing a vista partition in the future..

now i installed TF2 via steam and have set the launch options -dxlevel 81 -fullscreen -width 1280 -height 1024 and this works perfect.. menu comes up fine..

i also installed the fonts and resources patch from steam forum so all my text and fonts work perfectly too...

now when i select a server to join, the join screen comes up and recieves server info and sends client info... as soon as it goes to the "Movie intro" welcome -Continue screen.. it hangs, i cant click on anything i cant escape... if i do the option shift r command it minimizes TF2 to Steam, but i cant close TF2 down.. i have to quit the bottle. but i dont want to do this.. i wanna play the game :)

Any idea's?

i dont seem to have this problem if i join an Empty server? lol.. defeats the object tho :P

Also... from the servers i have managed to join, i get constant 60FPS which i have set from fps_max "60" and its REALLY smooth, and with the 10.5.2 update its even better!

Also in game "when i get on a server" FPS will drop to like 10FPS after a few mins... and does become unplayable...

Do you have a language other than english? If so, can you try if switching the game's language to english fixes the problem? We have some issues with certain fonts that could cause the crash

The FPS problem is a known issue on Radeon HD cards, and to a certain extend on all cards. A cloaked spy of your own team causes the fps to drop drastically. Two spies and you can be down to 10 fps. We need GL_EXT_framebuffer_blit support and general stable GL_EXT_framebuffer_objects support to accelerate this. I've already filed feature requests in Apple's bugtracker.

Using low shader detail might work around the problem

im running the 2.2 Core 2 Duo, Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT

My Steam language is set to English? if thats what you mean? :)

my Shader is on Low as per my Autoexec, so it cant change. the only things i have set are the mipmap to descent quality to counter the no shaders/shadows... i have also tried lowering the mipmap but still crashes at that part of joining server...

it seems on one particular server too... Wireplay UK 2fort 24/7 [instant respawn] server..

where as i can join another server i play on and sometimes it WILL go further... and sometimes it wont.. it just crashes and i cant do anything.. weird :)

I get this crash when I join a server that uses a webpage in-place of the standard 'chalkboard' view you get by default. Since Valve games use only IE for these in-game sites, I can only imagine that the crash is due to TF2 wanting to access IE, which obviously doesn't exist in Crossover Mac.

I now have the same exaxt problem.

If it is because of the server admins putting a webpage then something was changed because I could view their pages before.

I have the latest os and driver updates.

Install IE6.0 from the Crossover menu. It worked for me after that. The problem was that TF2 used IE to display certain kinds of server welcome chalkboards, but couldn't find it.

Thanks thatbox. Installing IE6 solved that problem. Now if Apple will give Codeweavers the tools they need so that we can play this game beyond 10fps, we'd be set. Lol.
