Resolution issues

On the surface, TF2 seems to launch fine, except when it opens, the Valve splash screen is only 1/4 visible, down in the lower right corner of my screen.

When it gets to the loading screen, it's perfect, centered, but by the time it hits the main menu, it's back down in the bottom right. That means I can only see roughly the first half of the menu, and I can't figure out how to change resolutions, go to windowed mode, etc...

I have a new iMac 24", and yes, I saw other posts on this forum about some issues with the new hardware...so maybe I am out of luck, but I hope someone can help me

I have seen some people suggest running it with certain parameters (such as -windowed), but I can figure out how to apply those parameters.

You set launch options like -window in the Steam interface. Select your game and click the Properties button. Click the Set Launch Options button in the properties dialog which comes up.

The problem with TF2's menu coming up off-center is known. You can use windowed mode to play, or if you want to play in full-screen mode, you can use windowed mode to configure TF2 for full-screen at your native desktop resolution. The off-center thing only happens when using full-screen mode at a resolution other than your desktop resolution.

Hm....I was running it by just running the Team Fortress 2.exe, I will have to play with the Steam interface, see what I can with that.

Ok....I got it connected in steam.

Do the properties go outside the quotes?

ie:
.............exe" -property

or

.............exe -property"

The former seems to do nothing, the latter gives an error.

Still trying

In the Run Command dialog, the launch options go after the quoted file name. In other words, the former way. So, if you do:

....exe" -window

The game does not run in windowed mode?

nope, it doesn't window, I still get the original behaviour.
