"You Were Killed By:" Screen Acting Wacky

I downloaded CrossOver Games last night, and I have to say I am very impressed at how well Source games run on my MacBook. I did notice something rather strange while playing TF2.

That is what comes up whenever I die, instead of a shot of my assailant. I didn't see a thread on this issue, so I apologize if this is a repeat.
Here's some of my stats in case that matters.
MacBook Pro
2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 gigs of Ram
ATI Radeon X1600

Yep, it is a known problem on cards that do not support unconditional NP2 textures(ie, radeon X1000 series cards), or on Linux Geforce 5 cards. GF6+ don't have this issue. So far no workaround exists, fixing this problem is a high priority item for the next release.

Do the Nvidia 8800GT and the Radeon 3870 support unconditional NP2 textures?

Yes, they should. I am not sure if the driver exposes the support, but I would be surprised if it didn't. You can find out by looking at the available opengl extensions, or the opengl version. If it supports opengl 2.0, it supports NP2 textures, or if it supports the GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two extension.

One thing to keep in mind is that on X1600 cards MacOS emulates this feature. The hardware doesn't support it, but MacOS exposes it. If the app uses NP2 textures, MacOS falls back to software rendering, with terrible performance. Thus we disable unconditional NP2 textures in radeon X1x00 cards and use the conditional NP2 support via GL_ARB_texture_rectangle instead

Ok, I'll probably buy the 3870 for my Mac Pro once Apple adds the upgrade kit to their store. I will be sure to let you know if the driver supports it.

I'd just like to say that this is happening to me as well. I was going to post a thread but came across this one. I really do hope this is fixed soon, it freaks me out (to the point where I'd rather play TF2 in Windows), and I'm glad it's high priority.

The next CrossOver release(currently in beta testing) fixes this problem. I hope that we can release it next week. A RC1 is planned for tomorrow, if testing goes ok we usually release the last release candidate a few days later.

@ Advocates: Beta1 doesn't have this issue fixed yet, but RC1 will have the fix.

Nice to hear Stefan. I also having this problem on my Imac.

I must say the game it self improved a lot since I updated to Crossover Games!
Thanks and great work!

I just installed and tried out the latest beta (7.1.0rc3), and it works, hooray! I can play again! The game's framerate seems to have improved a little, too. Thank you so much, I'm very glad. Unfortunately, the game still has its problems, crashing somewhat frequently, but it's at least in a playable state.

Edit: I've actually noticed that the crashes seem to occur during the "Killed By" zoom in. At least twice that I recall out of the perhaps 4 or 5 crashes since yesterday I've experienced have happened during this time (though it might have been every crash); the "whoosh" sound gets stuck in repeat and the game freezes up. The only way to stop it is to force Crossover to quit.

This has happened in both 7.1.0rc3 and 7.1.0.

Still .. aside from that, it's running nicely. But it's kind of difficult to never die!
