I got the crossover demo simply to play the Orange Box on my macbook pro:
Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Memory: 2 GB
Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT
VRAM (Total): 128 MB
I have installed it and I have installed direct x into the same bottle... it lags horribly. Including the steam launch client. I have tried various tags i.e. -dxlevel80 but still no luck. Any advice would be great.
What version of Crossover are you running?
By the sounds of it you aren't running Crossover Games?
You mention installing directx into the bottle as well. This is not required and it probably what is causing your issue.
Standard installation instructions are to use Crossover Games 7.2.1. Once installed you create a new bottle and select "Steam". The installer downloads the steam installation files and all other required addons.
I got the 7.2.1 demo that you are linked too upon hitting the 'try now' option... I did the standard steam from download option and I only did the direct x thing after multiple other attempts failed.
