TF2 Crashes at server load

Hey I've been using crossover for half life 2 exclusively for the past few weeks and it runs great! I recently installed team fortress 2 and everything seemed to be going well, but I can't seem to even get into the games "continue" menu. I can get to the server selection, select a server, and watch the little white bars fill up. At the last bar of the "Sending client info" or whatever, it crashes.

Running crossover games on a 15" macbook pro, tiger OS. Really hoping I don't need to get leopard for this. Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT
Launch options: -novid +mat_hdr_level 0 -width 800 -height 600 -dxlevel 80 -windowed

also tried other forced resolutions, no dice.

Stefan would know better, but I believe that when you pass -dxlevel 80 to the launch option, you should open Team Fortress once to the menu, then exit, take the -dxlevel option out, and re-run. This solved problems for me in the past.

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't seem to solve the problem. Oh well it was worth a shot!

Any other takers?

I have the same problems, with one bar left to load, the game shuts down on me every time. Nothing I've tried has worked. Can someone please help us out here.

Hey guys, am trying to face the same problem since yesterday.
My System..

15" macbook pro
nvidia geforce 8600m gt
2gb ddr ram
codeweavers games demo 7.1.1

I also tried different launch options, creating a new bottle, repairing disc and so on.
One time, when i used dxlevel 90 instead of dxlevel 80, spurisingly team fortress didnt close after the last loading brick, instead the screen froze and i heard the sounds of the female voice "30 seconds to missions end..10 seconds..and so on"..dont know if it helps solving the problem.

Hope you guys can handle this cause i was really fascinated of the posibilities crossover brings with and if this is going to run in future, i would pay for it definitly.

So i keep on trying to solve this on my own now
Holla

I would recommend using "-dxlevel 81" rather than 80. And the advice to run with that once and then remove it is correct.

Can you create your own server without crashing? Some servers present a welcome message that can cause the crash.

Also, you should try configuring the game options to use English as the language. We are aware of some crashes with other languages, which we think is due to font processing.

With upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, I have started experiencing this problem. Before, with Ubuntu 8.10 it worked almost perfectly with only a minor issue that made me have to run with shadows on low. But now I can't make it past initial welcome sign on servers. I can make my own sever but the "-dxlevel 81" does not work it still crashes, another weird difference is that on some maps I don't make it to the welcome sign but that only happens some of the time. My specs are (obviously) Ubuntu 9.04, Nvidia 9800GT+, CXGames 7.1 1. If anybody knows how to make a log in Steam I would be happy to make and send it to Codeweavers for a error report.

None of these solutions have worked for me, any other ideas?

I'm having the same problem. I tried to make my own server, and it crashed during the loading, just like it does with joining servers.

set your graphics to texture:low models:med shaders:low and that should work also if you put textures at high it might work too

That didn't work either...it's so strange, steam runs fine, the game loads up fine. But, as soon as it gets one bar away from joining a game, or I try to check my inventory for one of the classes, the game shuts down.

Just wanted to add, we're fully aware of this problem, and doing a fire drill to get it fixed ASAP.

So far we've isolated a crash in wineserver. That's a very rare thing, and we consider any situation in which wineserver crashes a serious bug in CrossOver. We have an experimental fix for this: http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?t=25;msg=54559

This does, unfortunately, not help all people. We're also seeing a new Out of Memory problem. Some people have reported success with lowering graphics settings, some people had success with -dxlevel 81(But I don't understand why, as it is already the default dxlevel)

We hope that we can come up with a proper fix for cxgames 7.2 early next week, and hope to start a CrossOver Games 8 beta soon afterwards.

Are those the problems due to the new patch? Because I've had this error since I first got crossover games in March.

John, which platform(Mac/Linux) and graphics card do you use?

I have a 15" Macbook Pro. Mac OS X 10.4.11, GeForce 8600M GT.

John, I highly recommend you to update to Leopard. I don't think we have a single MacBook with a Geforce 8600 around that runs Tiger. They only shipped for a few weeks, and we didn't grab one of them before Apple released Leopard.

Leopard has a number of graphics driver fixes that will make your gaming much more pleasant.
