Episode 5, Rise of the Pirate God -- I can not even install it...

Does anybody of you have the same problem?
I try to install the game as usual, but before I see any kind of installer CrossOver says "Installation failed".

Help!

Thanks,
Florian

PS: I'm using 8.0.0 on Leopard (MacBook Pro)

Ok, found a way. Maybe it is just a problem if you use 8.0.0, but since all my other TellTale games work perfectly fine in 8.0.0 I did not even try one of the newer versions.

I could install ToMI episode 5 in my old CrossOver Games 7.2.2 installation. Once I installed in 7.2.2 I could easily start it in 8.0.0 after applying the good old "copy D3DX9_41.dll from some old version of the game"-trick. (See also post for Episode 3!)

If also you have always trouble finding the right path to the bottles on your Mac, here it is: ~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver Games/Bottles/
('~' meaning your home folder, of course)

Cheers,
Florian

Hi Florian,

this time it worked fine for me, maybe because I'm used to the procedure now. ;)

(I'm talking about the version directly from telltale.)

I used a copy of the bottle I produced with the Telltale trick (Tips & Tricks), installed Episode 5 (I used CrossOver Games 8.1.3, I think), entered my serial (CrossOver Games 7.2.2), copied the D3DX9_41.dll, and than played with 8.1.3 (clicking the invisible "launch game" button).

The path to the bottles is the same for me.

It's really a pity that the keyboard does not work in full-screen mode, only with emulated desktop activated. Otherwise it works just great.

I hope this is the appropriate place for this question, but has anyone been able to get the Telltale games running without using Crossover Games 7.2.2? I got ToMI episode 5 running in CXG 8.1.4, but only after installing it in 7.2.2 and using 7.2.2 to authenticate my copy with the Telltale server. It just takes a couple more minutes to use the older version, but it would be nice if I could just stick to the latest version.

Regards,
Tjeerd

Hi,
To answer your question, yes -- the caveats to that are that I'm running
linux, I'm referring to the TellTale Games Wallace&Gromit episodes, and it
doesn't quite 'work as expected' but it does work...

...a bit of background is that that these titles I refer to didn't work at
all in COG-8.0 -- I did have tickets submitted on this, which later grew into
a bug...but then there was the big L4D2 brouhaha that was the motivation behind
the COG-8.1.x releases. Now, someone else not me discovered that as of COG-8.1.3
the installation/registration/activation process for the Wallace&Gromit titles
had 'coincidentally' started to work (of sorts), and I went on to confirm what
they had found -- around this same time, I did some extensive checking to confirm
it indeed -was- a positive coincidental 'fix' for these titles ; the work done
to fix L4D2 had somehow helped these titles as well - Jack closed the bug 'for now'
as it were...you can read the long version in the tickets ...

tickets: #761499 #764900 #775997

Now...I don't know if the TellTale Games TOMI episodes are 'doing the same thing'
as the Wallace&Gromit episodes...but if they are, I'd really like to know about
it (so would Caron & Jack I suspect) -- you can have a look at the following page
to see the current workaround/state of play with these other TellTale Games titles;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6193;tips=1

Do note, TOMI may need different directx dll files (or other deps) and you still
need to satisfy those on a per-episode basis, however, if anyone would like to
try the above -procedure- with TOMI and report back here their experiences, it
would be perhaps useful to know...ie; if it is the same issue, it will put more
impetus into getting the bug looked at more deeply (by the devs), instead of leaving
it where it is now..ie; coincidentally squashed by combat action in L4D2 😎

Note: I just retested the Wallace&Gromit titles I have with COG-8.1.4 and they
were still getting the installation/registration/activation process completed
as per the above tip&trick.

Cheers!
