Summary: Runs pretty well.

1. Installed from ISO images into new WinXP bottle. -- no problems.
2. Applied latest patch.

4. Ran game. Launcher menu starts up OK.
5. Launch game -- crashes hard.
6. Restart; use launcher menu to disable movies.
7. Launch game -- get to main menu. Mouse cursor only visible when moving.
8. Quit; use launcher menu to disable hardware mouse.
9. Launch game -- everything looks fine. Play for a while.
10. Taris undercity -- weird lines across screen. Disable grass. No more problem.
11. Finish game. No further problems.

So, it works fine, but you have to disable movies, hardware mouse, and grass. My other graphics settings were max (but no advanced tweaks). Of course, movies do provide some plot, in the form of portentous dreams, so you lose out a bit there.
