Game plays fine, then freezes for no apparant reason

If anyone else has a fix for this issue please let me know.

The game will play fine for a while then all of a sudden the screen stops moving. My charaters weapon will move if i'm hitting the directional keys, the sounds will still go and I can hear the battle still going on and all my spells/talents activating, but the screen just looks like a picture of the the game when I was just midway through a battle or going into one and it even happens when I'm not even in a battle.

I thought maybe it was the graphics, so I turned them down all the way. It still happened. I can't think of what else would cause this kind of freeze unless it has something to do with the internet, but it shouldn't because it wouldn't even work if that was the case.

I will try some fixes some of you had shown for other problems and see if it works, but if anyone can think of other fixes, please let me know, I'm willing to try anything.

Thank you

yes ... I've had it happen to me several times

This problem did not occur to me until after the 6/01/2011 Rift client hotfix. I'm running a 27" iMac with OSX 10.6.7 and ATI Radeon HD 4850 on the 2560x1418 graphics setting.
I am also getting an error message periodically at startup that says I can not connect to the patch server. In addition, after I click play in the log-in screen, the "PLAY" button changes to "CANCEL" for a few seconds, before reverting back to "PLAY". This makes me wonder if there isn't some other patch or software checking that should be occurring during those few seconds. So I'm wondering if there isn't another client hotfix that we are having problems getting. I ran the Rift version checker and it stated that all my client files are the latest, so that probably discounts that idea.

This freeze doesn't seem to happen more often than every half-hour or so, but I haven't actually timed it. It does not seem to be dependant upon keystrokes, but might be keyed to character status changes, such as when buffs fade. I'll need to do more research on that. Any more input from anyone else sure could help.

Edit: The latest time it froze, I changed the resolution (in the Rifts menu) and still the character stayed frozen. But get this: when I chose "LOG OUT" it took me to the character screen and there was my character still frozen, but this time with arms held out to the sides. And when I rotated my character, the weapons rotated but the character did not. Curiouser and curiouser.

this is happening to me more and more, the same issues ... so much so I would say I can only play for 20 or 30 minutes before I freeze up

often I appear to sink into the ground, or I can only see my weapon floating around

Having the same problem, log out doesnt work, resolution doesn't work, reloadui does nothing, changing from full screenrto windowed and vise versa, going from decent graphics to low quality render doesn't work. I was worried I blew out my graphics card... Second major problem I have had with this game running via CrossOver. Makes it unplayable.

I, too, am having the same problem. I was hoping someone has found an answer and just didn't post it? I was running with my husband and dad, who both run on PCs. I upgraded my ram from 2GB to 3GB yesterday (I tried 4GB but my macbook kept crashing). Game runs fairly well, I have it on the low rendering, though some important graphics didn't load (Like a bridge I needed to cross and rocks I couldn't jump over cause I couldn't see the bridge). I'm going to send a ticket but was hoping for any information?

I am having this exact same issue. It did not begin for me until after the patch on 7/13. Now, no matter what settings I use, the screen will freeze with the weapons moving and occasional flashes of other characters moving. I was even able to interact with the Mailbox but I couldn't move my character.

I have the same problem.

I think it occurs when the light (day/night) is changing -- can anyone else confirm this hypothesis?
To me it looks like when light is changing, the map is changing, and the character is stuck in a "bad" map.

Hope it helps debuggers...

Cheers

Me too. it's been happening for a month now. there is no apparent reason that I can see why it's happening. If there is someone who it is NOT happening too, could you please tell us your settings?

Ditto here. Video locks up randomly after long intervals. I will see a few frames tick by and some slight changes. I can also see some things advance like rogue & warrior 'charges' (skulls, swords) below my 'portrait', but the avatar doesn't move. It's not an internet thing because I can still see the latency and it's fine.

Quitting the game and launching again is the only fix I've found.

Edit:
I walked away and left the game running and when I came back this 'issue' was in effect. Most menus work fine, including bags, etc. I can change equipment and it changes on the paper doll. However, if I try to rotate the paper doll, the weapons rotate, but not the character. Weird. On the main screen, I see 'thought balloons' moving at normal speed, but nothing else changes other than an occasional player nameplate going by. I can do a full camera 360, but only see occasional changes in the environment. I can interact w/ the vendor that is near me, but cannot move. Latency is holding in the mid 50's. Framerate is low, around 15, but I'm in Meridian, so that's not unusual. This issue occurs everywhere though.

Hope this info is of some help.

Hey guys just wanted to say i have been experiencing the same issue but it is beginning to happen more and more frequently. I have all graphics settings turned down to a minimum and low render on.
Do we know of a permanent fix to this issue yet?
Will there be a permanent fix to come or will it be dismissed as insignificant?
I am contemplating purchasing the full version after using the trail and being very satisfied but if the game keeps freezing on me every 10 mins it is possible I may turn away as it makes dungeons, raids, instances etc incredibly hard, especially as a tank cause I can't move and do my job.

I apologise if this not up to standard, I'm still a newbie to forums =)

Cheers!

Hi...

...as a rule of thumb, it's always best to mention your
OS/version and machine specifics, particularly video card/
chipset employed ; without such, we're left guessing...
and this title requires a 'good' videocard..

...as for Rift itself... the issues are being looked into,
but after watching things for a while I get the impression
things are getting better in wine-devel on the incline to
the wine-1.4 release, and once all of that work rolls into
crossover next, I think Rift will run better for us (the
current crossover versions are based on wine-1.3.9) The last
I heard, the next crossover release is slated for late Feb/
early March this year...

Cheers!

Hi all,
