Mac OS X 10.5.6 breaks Torment compatibility

I had Torment working perfectly with no hiccups whatsoever on both an iMac with an 8800 GS GPU and MacBook with a 9400m by using the bit depth workaround described in both the forum and tips section (having to set the monitor to thousands of colors before starting Crossover). However, the updated graphics card drivers that came with the Mac OS X 10.5.6 update appear to have broken Torment completely -- immediately after applying the update, Torment stopped working on both my iMac and MacBook.

The game crashes on start with an error message along the lines of "Assertion failed: no valid video modes supported". Googling this error has turned up that it's basically related to monitor resolution and/or bit depth and says that it couldn't set the monitor to a supported config (thousands of colors at 640x480 if you're not using the widescreen mod or a variety of widescreen resolutions if you are -- I was using 1280x800 with no issues). Manually setting my resolution and color to any number of allowed resolutions did not fix the problem, nor did reinstalling the game, with or without the widescreen mod. I tried a variety of other fixes through Wine that met with no success. I've just upgraded Crossover to 7.2 (from 7.1.1) and can confirm that the same behavior is present. At this time I'm aware of no way to run Torment through Crossover on OS X >= 10.5.6. If anyone can contradict me, do post your solution here. Success may also vary depending on your GPU; I'm aware of someone with an original MacBook (with GMA 950) that wouldn't run Torment even pre-10.5.6.

I can verify this. I was the one that posted the resolution fix in the tips section, but it no longer works. I've also seen similar behavior while trying to get Beyond Divinity to work. It will likely be the case with Divine Divinity as well.

We would like to look into this issue, but we will need a few log files to compare.

To do this on the Mac, first load CrossOver Games into your dock.

Highlight 'Programs' and select 'Run Command'

Choose the bottle that Planescape: Torment is installed in

For the 'Command:' line click 'Browse' and point CrossOver at the executable file that launches Planescape: Torment

Click on the triangle/arrow to see the 'Debug Options'

choose +x11drv and add +xrandr in the 'Other:' section

Now, click on 'Run'.

The game will start and when it crashes it will place a log file on your desktop. This is the file we will need, you may need to archive it to get it to us.

Please do not post the file or it's contents here. If you do, we will remove the post with an explanation of it's removal. We want to keep the forums as straight forward as possible. So then, where does the file need to go?

Please, create a support ticket or send an email to info@codeweavers.com with a brief description of the problem and a link to this thread. The same can be done for the other games mentioned in this thread that are experiencing the problems. Please rename any log files to an appropriate name for the game they were collected from if you are submitting more than one log file.

If the log file is too large to transmit and archiving/compressing it does not make it small enough (which is doubtful but possible), please submit the ticket/email anyway and we will create a location for you to upload it to along with detailed instructions.

Our apologies, we do not have an immediate solution to this problem at this time, but we have a developer waiting for the log files so that the issue can be worked on. The sooner we receive them, the sooner we can begin the work.

Thank you in advance for your help with this!

Okay, I've opened a detailed support ticket at http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=729811;list=16;ticket_level=3
