Packmaster NOT working

Packmaster software is used for managing Cub Scout packs (membership database, advancement, etc.). I have been "Mac only" since 1986 and don't have any experience with Windows, so I figured this would be better than Boot Camp or Parallels for me. The developer is woefully un-Mac-like and the company web site actually suggests Virtual PC, which won't run on any machine introduced after 2005.

I was able to successfully (as far as I can tell) install PackMaster with Crossover, but when I attempt to launch PackMaster -literally- nothing happens. I -think- Crossover itself is working, since I saw the PM installation windows appear, and could read the "readme" file that's part of the PM installation process, but when I launch the PackMaster 2006 program there's no visual indication that anything at all is happening. There's no zoom rectangles, no windows open, there's no error message, no brief system pause as if a task was running in the background... Just... nothing.

It's the only Windows app I have, so I can't really test Crossover to be certain it is running correctly itself. I've installed PM in the default Win2000 bottle. I have less than 10 days remaining on my trial version of Crossover. Crossover tells me there's a new version available, but I didn't see any means to update my existing application. Do I really need to fill out a new 'trial' form and download a new disk image?

Cheers,

-- Tim

The nature of CrossOver is that there is software that just won't work with it. That's a big part of why we encourage everybody to try CrossOver before buying it, so they can figure out if it will meet their needs.

As a trial user, yes, you would have to download a new trial to get 6.2.

The changes between 6.1 and 6.2 were fairly narrowly targeted to some specific supported applications. So, while you should definitely give it a try if you're inclined, I don't have high expectations that PackMaster will suddenly begin working.

One thing you should definitely try, though, is creating a win98-type bottle and installing PackMaster there (assuming it's capable of running on Windows 98).

Good luck.
