[COG 8.0.0] Tested and works perfectly

CrossOver Games 8.0.0 Linux
Ubuntu Studio 8.04 64-bit

I installed Opera 10 from "classic installer" kit. Browsed around, everything worked fine. Then I downloaded and installed the Flash plug-in (had to close Opera when Flash asked to). Then I tested by looking around on YouTube for a while. Everything worked perfectly aside from a minor tearing on some occasions, just as David said in the other topic. By the way I don't have any Windows fonts installed, and my font rendering was just fine. Then I tested Opera Link to synchronize my bookmarks and the speed dial, which worked just fine. Then I tested the password manager wizard and this worked just fine, too.

A gold medal from me for this excellent browser. I mean, for the compatibility degree :)

I have an issue that I'm not sure yet it's a bug or not. I just found out that the bottle of Opera 10 (in which nothing else has been run except Opera 10) has its directory [..]/.cxgames/opera_10/drive_c/users/crossover/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 filled: 4 subdirs that total 52.000 small files of 1,2 GB total. The weird thing is, I have definitely not browsed so much so as to collect all of these cached data! I browsed for about 30-60 minutes in total when testing, and on regular sites such as YouTube.

I don't know where this data comes from... If I clear up this thing I'll report back.

Stefan,
Hmmm sounds odd. Did you have anything installed in that bottle before? And does clearing the cache in opera get rid of them? (Tools>Delete Private Data....>click "Detailed Options" and select everything.)

BTW the Font rendering problem seems to be when you DO install the Windows fonts. Works better without them for some reason.

No. And no. Unfortunately.

.cxoffice/opera/drive_c/users/crossover/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files

on my install is empty. Even while the browser is in use. This must be an unrelated issue. Are you sure you didn't re-use a previous bottle (like the default bottle) from another program? Do they come back after you clean the files manually?

Yes I'm sure.

I found how to reproduce it. I am sometimes watching a streaming news TV. Whenever I let it run it amasses these small files. As far as I can tell it's Flash video streaming. So I don't understand what's the deal with Internet Explorer temp files.

Can you guys try this? This is the link. You don't have to let it run for long, just a few seconds, and you can already see the files in there ([..]/.cxgames/opera_10/drive_c/users/crossover/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5) amassing.

Edit: David, to answer to your last question, yes they do come again after deleting them.
Edit 2: I checked the same folder from my Windows XP (because in Win I also have Opera 10, which I use way much more for watching this TV station than on Linux). So in Win it's just 3500 files totalling 63 MB. Huge difference.

Have you tried the latest Opera version after patch? I tried it on Linux w/ CX and looked at your site but couldn't get any files to generate in that directory.

I updated my Opera to 10.01 and had multiple tests.

In the majority of cases I am getting exactly the same behaviour. I would say that the accumulation is at about 50 MB and 2000 files per hour.

After update, in this new batch of tests, only once starting Opera 10.01 and watching this website didn't create new files there. But the previous and next times, it still did.

It's exactly the same web site so I can't undersand why the difference, and why it's doing this. And this, only on Linux.

Ok Stefan I'll test it again maybe I didn't stay long enough in the site for me to see the files. I'll also test it on windows.

Ok After watching Italian TV for an hour I can conclude:

  1. The Vino Vedecci skit in SNL is hilarious.
  2. Italian TV ads are nicer than American ones. And they are at the same volume as the program not 3x louder.
  3. Apparently red ties are in fashion in Italy.

On the issue at hand no luck. No files are created at all. I even created a Content.IE5 folder to see if it would make any in it. So that leaves me with two things to suspect:

  1. We have different versions of Flash? Probably not but worth checking.
  2. You inadvertently installed malware on that bottle somehow.

Otherwise we have similar set ups as I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 64-bits

Next testing the same site under windows.

Ok Windows 7 doesn't seem to generate any Content.IE5 folder either. Let's see XP.

Small theory... but it may be unrelated.

There was a memory leak with Internet Explorer 6.0. We fixed it!

Maybe you are going to an authentication site with Opera that spawns the same link?

Try this build:

http://dl.codeweavers.com
access code: ie6build

You can use your account credentials to unlock the demo.

Usually an issue like this is much better served in our Ticket System (because we would be highly interested in differing behaviours).

Please create a support ticket or send an email to info@codeweavers.com if this build doesn't resolve the issue.

Hi Caron. Sorry for the late answer. I just tried the ie6build and it doesn't help this problem. I still get cache files accumulation. Again, the bottle is new, I opened exactly that web page with Opera, so there is no malware possibility etc. YouTube doesn't cause it.

One more detail I noticed now, that perhaps can help pinpoint the problem. The web page changed in the meanwhile and is now offering 2 streaming sources. On one of them the problem reproduces, on the other it doesn't. From upper-left where it says "Conexiune Romania / International", the "Romania" streaming source doesn't reproduce the problem. Choosing "international" reproduces it. Here's the URL straight to the "international" streaming source:

http://webtv.realitatea.net/live?international=1

...to get the accumulation problem. Or to try to :)

By the way, I only have a license for Crossover Games so as far as I understand I'm not permitted to submit tickets for non-games.

Christ! That link brought down my ubuntu computer!
True I was updating at the same time I checked the website, but the memory leak is epic. Memory corruption etc.
I'll post the flash version later. Full crash. Jeez.

What's leaking, this web site, Opera, or CrossOver? :) Or Ubuntu?

I'm guessing Flash actually. I'll write more when I get time to play some more on that computer.

verified that I didn't have the latest version of Flash. I tried it again and kerplup the graphics failed again. Let me see if it happens w/ the new version of flash.
To generate the crash all I had to do was play the video for a few seconds (once it loaded) then try to close the tab it's on.

Oh great now Ubuntu won't start (Video setting not supported) what?

Happens with the latest Flash. Now on to check if it's something in my ubuntu settings.
