Monkey Island Special Edition Collection (1+2) – does NOT work

hi everybody,

i bought the retail version "Monkey Island Special Edition Collection", including "The Secret of… SE" an "LeChucks Revenge SE" on one CD.

i installed it with the game's own autorun und a windows vista bottle, which works fine, it even installs VC 2005, VC 2005 SP1, VC 2008, Direct X.

once the installation completed, i can even click on "Play Monkey Island Special Edition Collection", but then the whole thing crashes saying in a window that a big error occured.

can anybody help please?

Hi,

I'm not familiar with this edition, but typically they include a Launcher app that only takes care of executing one game or the other (or their configuration apps). If this is the case, it's possible that the Launcher needs something else installed in your bottle. I'm just guessing here.

Can you post a compressed debug log somewhere on the web? Like mediafire.com or something like that. You didn't say if you were on Linux or Mac ... Instructions for Linux: http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/linux/linuxtutorial/debug Instructions for Mac: http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/mactutorial/submittechsupportlog

Can you also try to launch a game directly? I mean, finding the actual executable in your bottle's directory structure and open it with CrossOver. It should work. If it does, then we'll know we truly only have to worry about getting the Launcher to work.

Hi Alejandro,

Thank you for answering that fast!

I run it on Crossover 10.1.2, on Mac OS 10.6.8.

I followed your advice and tried to launch the two games directly, but it didn't work either.

I uploaded the three logs:

its probably a drm (CD copy protection) issue. I used the digital version which includes the drm so thats why it works out of the box without a DRM override".

okay, but i purchased the games legally …
so is there anything i can do?

Sorry about that, Wolfram. I think Paul is right. The digitally distributed versions work great, but this physical edition you have very likely has DRM code that only the target operating system (Windows) can handle.

Does the game include any CD or product activation keys? If so, you might be able to activate those on Steam (under the 'Games' menu) and get the digital versions instead. (Chances of it are slim but I've had games that included Steam keys.)
