Cannot deal with .msu installer files

Part of .Net 4.0's installation process involves .msu files, but I could not get the installer to run them.

I even installed MSI 3.1 and 4.5 in an XP bottle, then switched the bottle to Vista, to see if that would handle this extension.

I imagine this will work better as Vista/Win7 bottle support grows.

I was able to get it installed by first installing Windows Installer 4 (WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe) and XML Parser. But program complains about not being able to parse drive_c/windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v4.0.30319/config/machine.config

Same happens here after trying to install the .net framework. I have downloaded the same necessities with the latest version of Crossover of this date.

It works... If you use the .Net framework v3 but use the v4 exe it will work but then during installation there will be another error... :(

I'm using CrossOver Games though...

I assume it was attempting to install the win7/vista version versus the xp version, how odd, msu files are not natively supported by xp as far as I know of.

You are right in that .msu files are not supported by XP. But if I remember correctly, there is noo XP version of .Net 4.0. So its dependence on .msu files is not odd at all.

Wait, what do you mean that XP doesn't support msu do you mean Windows XP or just CrossOver XP.

Because I can install .NET v4 on Windows XP Service Pack 3s, so, I'm assuming you mean CrossOver XP?
