Current version of the client?

Hey I have been playing LOTRO with no issues but I just moved down to Costa Rica and now its telling me that I do not have a current version of the client. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Javier

Hello Javier, be sure to run the Patch process to be sure your files are up to date. If the problem persists, please give us more details about the error, ie. when it pops up and such. Good luck!

I am having this problem as well, but I've tried patching from the PyLotRO client and all it gives me after I hit Start is a little flickering, and then Finished . I know from installing it that this means that it didn't really do anything. Now what do I do?

Be sure to check the FAQ section of the Tips & Tricks section here, it may give you some clues. My guesses would be:

  • corrupted patchclient.dll, try to fetch it from backup again
  • lost track to the game directory - point PyLotRO to the game directory again in Tools - Options
  • check your internet connection when starting the Patch process

Okay, I went into the backup folder and copied the patchclient.dll file into the main folder. As far as I know, it patched correctly after that, however I was still getting an error message when I logged in. Now if I copy the file again and attempt to patch, I get this in the log:

Connecting to patch.lotro.com:80

Checking files...
files to patch: 1 bytes to download: 146728
Patching files:

Downloading patchclient.dll..
........
..........
..
Decrypting.......
.........
..........
.........
.
File in use. It will be self patched.

Self patch required. Program will restart.

Finished

Afterwards, when I log in, it goes through the first loading screen, then the second one with "retrieving character data" and whatnot, and then to a black screen with "Error, cannot patch!" and a quit button. Now what?

Turbine updated LOTRO on Monday 24 January. If you have not patched your client since then, that is why you do not have the current version.

Launch PyLotRO, select patch from the tools menu.
This patch is a "quick" one... about 5 minutes on a 6meg line as I recall.

Did you run "Patch" a second time... Frequently when the "self patch" message pops up, you need to run PyLotRO's patch process twice.

Also, make certain you have the latest PyLotRO ... 0.1.14.
You can pick it up from the PyLotRO page here:
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6292

Also #2: You may now have a corrupted Patchclient.dll file... check the tips and tricks section.
I keep a copy on my website:

http://www.mcgillsociety.org/PyLotRO/index.html

It seems a bit like you didn't read my previous post at all...

I installed the newest PyLotRO into the same bottle as the game – no difference. I had already copied the patchclient.dll file from backup to the main game folder numerous times, and attempted to patch immediately after – now I can't even replicate the log contents I posted before, for some reason. It just flickers a bit and then says Finished, even if I do it multiple times, and when I open the game it still gets partway through the second screen (with "retrieving character data" and that sort of thing) and then gives me a black screen with "Error, cannot patch!" and a quit button.

I really have no idea what else to do, apart from a total reinstall of the game into a new bottle, using more current install files. If anyone can help me sort this out without it coming to that, I'd be much obliged.

You only get "one backup" shot... after that the copy of the patchclient.dll file in the backup directory itself is corrupted.

When you install a "new" patchclient.dll file it should always reproduce the patching.

Copy the patchclient.dll file from my website or somewhere else and run the patch process TWICE, before you try to launch the game... that should fix the "error cannot patch" problem.

Nope, I downloaded it from your site and put it in the folder; both by renaming it (removing the 2, and replacing the existing file) and by leaving it with that name and redirecting the launcher in the options to find it as the patch client file. On telling it to patch, it still just did the flickering and Finished without anything else, and the game is still giving me the same error message. :(

Weird....

You should always get, at a minimum...
<cut here>==
Patching files:

Connecting to patch.lotro.com:80

Checking files...
files to patch: 0 bytes to download: 0
Patching files:

Connecting to patch.lotro.com:80

checking data...
data patches: 0 bytes to download: 0
unlock: 0 empty: 0
result code: 0x00000001
Patching data:

Finished
<cut here>==
If you are not getting the "connecting" messages, then something else is radically wrong.

Check the "settings wizard" to make certain it knows which game... about the only thing else I can think of.

There must have been some other file corrupted, that's all I can guess. I just did a clean install of LotRO into a new bottle (including the most recent PyLotRO download from your site), and it's working just fine. Heck if I know what the problem was. Thanks for your help, anyway.
