Problem when creating bottles

Hi there,

I'm currently using CrossOver Games trial 9.0 in order to run Guild Wars on my Macbook (Leopard / 10.5.2). I installed COG, then downloaded the GW installer, and ran COG (using the CrossOver Games software installer). But here's my problem : when the program attempts to create the GW bottle (using a win2OOO bottle, others are apparently not compatible... weird), an error occurs : URLError(error(60, 'Operation timed out'),). Ok, what do I do now ?

Here's my configuration :

Macbook
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1.6 Go DDR2 SDRAM
GC : GMA X3100 144 Mo

Hope anybody can help.

Is CrossOver trying to download Guild Wars for you? You said you downloaded it, yourself. Are you selecting that file as your installer source in CrossOver's Software Installer window?

The error you report suggests a download problem, but if you select the already-downloaded file, it shouldn't need to download it. (Hmm. Maybe it's downloading a prerequisite and not Guild Wars, itself.)

You can expand the installation progress section of the window to see the individual steps of the installation. So, you can maybe verify which step is having the problem.

You can also tell CrossOver to skip a failed step, to see if it can make progress anyway.

There may be an issue with an HTTP proxy. In theory, CrossOver should use your Mac's proxy settings and it should all work, but maybe it's failing for some reason.

Another thing you can try: create the bottle manually before you go to install, using the Manage Bottles window. Then, in the Software Installer window, make sure you select the existing bottle. That can help isolate the problem (is it really bottle creation that's failing or something else?).

Good evening!

I agree with Ken, I know don't laugh as he is with CodeWeavers and I am not. I would expect there is an underlying issue that we need to just get to the bottom of. Follow the steps Ken presented and let us know the results..

Have a great evening!

Sincerely,
David

The problem were at the creating bottle point, it was running indefinitely, until the error message.
Finally, I launched my Disk Utilitary and repaired the disk permissions, downloaded a previous version of COG (8.1.4), and now it works. My excuses. (I didn't try with the 9.0 version, so I don't know if it works with it)

Ok, it SEEMS to work. I still have few problems : I checked the tips, so I use the -dx8 -noshaders -windowed -dsound commands (not the dx9, because the game goes on a white screen and freeze), the game launches, everything seems to be good (maybe some graphic issues, but, well, whatever, the game LAUNCHES) and after I type my login and password, the game freeze.

I'm actually trying using the regkeys tip...

(and thanks a lot for your help, really)

(Oh, and I'm sorry if there are some mistakes or syntaxical errors in my posts, I'm french)

Hmm. Your Macbooks's GPU is pretty low-powered. It may not be sufficient to support the game.

However, it shouldn't freeze the system. Given that it does, I suspect bugs in the Mac OS X graphics drivers. Unfortunately, those drivers don't get a lot of love from Apple because the cards are not shipping in modern Macs.

It's possible that upgrading your OS may help. You can at least apply the free updates for Leopard to bring it to 10.5.8. If you can afford it, Snow Leopard did improve the quality of the graphics drivers a lot.

I guess you're right. I should have done that before trying anything else. I'm gonna update to 10.5.8, and I'll post back here the results. Thanks a lot for your time.
