I have tried several times today to get this to work using Crossover. Every time I get an error that says, "Guild Wars 2 cannot patch or start with the desktop locked. Please restart Guild Wars 2."

I have no idea what this means, what am I doing wrong?

What version of Crossover are you using and have you followed the Tips and Tricks section correctly?
Would love to know what the steps that lead up to this error are?

I also have this problem, I have the latest version of crossover (on trial) also I am following the installation steps on the tips and tricks section flawlessly. I think it may be the fact that I require a password to install anything on my mac so if I can find out how to turn that off I will see if that fixes it.

What are the specs of your mac? (OSX version, RAM, HDD, Graphics Card, Processor)??

Also, make sure that if you are trying the installation again the only file in your Guild Wars 2 folder is the GW2.exe, each time you try it is probably creating a .dat and some log files etc that might hinder it in subsequent tries.

As for the permissions, are you running as an Administrator? You can check this by going to System preferences in your applications then clicking "Users and Groups". Under your name in the left hand panel it should say "Admin".
You could also try turning your Firewall Off if it isn't already, the option is also in System Preferences but this time in the "Security and Privacy section.

The only other thing I can think of, right click the folder you are installing GW2 in and click "get Info". Near the bottom of the window there should be a list of users and their privileges, check that your name has "Read & Write next to it" and then do the same thing for the GW2.exe file.

I have admin rights and I also have read/write permissions on everything I also delete the files gw2 puts in my documents (.dat etc) but still desktop locked. I am running a 13-inch 2012 macbook pro 2.5ghz ivy bridge, 8gb ram, samsung 830 256gb.

What about if you move the folder that you're installing Guild Wars 2 in (as in, the folder with GW2.exe) to another location such as your user drive or applications folder?

I moved the gw2 folder with gw2.exe into the applications folder and installed via a new bottle but stil the same message came up. here is the crash report from gw2

Hello, I have the same problem as you and I don't know what to do. I'm on a Macbook Pro 13' 2011. Also, something is weird : in your error message, you have "GetLogicalProcessorInformation failed, increase buffer bytes to 1536" and I got the same thing with others apps trying to run Guild Wars 2 on my Mac. So I guess that it's always the same problem which makes the launcher crash. Any ideas ?

This is quite possibly the issue since I think I got the same error when trying to install GW2 on my Windows computer. Guild Wars 2 requires a Graphics card with 256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better.

Click the Apple icon in your menu bar then "about this mac" >> "more info" >> "System Report" and then find the "Graphics/Displays" category. Tell me the chipset model (as in the name of the actual graphics card) and the VRAM total, if you have more than one graphics card (it would be an intel card and a NVIDIA or an intel card and a ATI then tell me both of them.

Unfortunately if the issue is because your graphics cards don't have shader model 3.0 or better then there is nothing you can do as your computer doesn't meet the minimum specification requirements to play guild wars 2 :/

except that intel HD 3000 is the minimum specs for GW2 and ivy bridge has intel HD4000.

Thats the part that worries me, it seems as if CrossOver is reading your specs wrong?

Go there and expand the Memory Size section and follow the instructions in there. Perhaps forcing CrossOver/GW2 to see your actual vRAM size will fix it?

Ok here is what I have just done.

Followed the steps advised in the video memory size tips and tricks and did that ok.
ran the gw2.exe which was placed in the applications folder, that did not work
changed the location of the gw2.exe to the bottles program files and that did not work
retried with the -image command that did not work either. however I have a new error.

I'm Running Debian with Wine 1.5.5, no Crossover. I had the same problem when trying to install Guild Wars 2. Downloading wine-gecko, as part of running winecfg for the first time, didn't work either.
After installing a bunch of nvidia related packages and their dependences everything seems to work. At least the game is downloading now.
