Re: beta weekend stopgap

Hello,

I pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 because I knew that it was working with Crossover, and the client is downloading in a WinVista bottle right now, and it's only a few percent in. But from what I'm reading, it's going to fail on me at some point. Going through the "what runs?" search shows that GW2 is known not to work on the current version of CG, but version 11.0.0 has a gold medal, so my question is this:

How can I get a copy of version 11.0.0? I would be more than happy to r

aaaaand it just failed.

I would be happy to roll back my version of Crossover Games to get this running until the problem with the client is addressed, but I can't find older versions under my account.

Okay, never mind that. I just found it here:

http://www.codeweavers.com/account/downloads/?_dl=archive

Has anyone had success going this route yet? I'm going to try installing a sidelong copy of 11.0.0 using the instructions here:

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/faq/cxmacmultiplecopies

and see if I can get GW2 working on the older version.

I tried but it failed with 11.0.0
No idea how the golf medail happened.

Yeah, it just failed on me at 4%. Doesn't take long, and for just downloading, I'm kind of surprised. Just for kicks, I deleted the bottle, which I created with 11.0.3 and all the files created with GW2.exe and am starting over from scratch with 11.0.0, and unchecking the auto-play option in the installer. I'm guessing that if GW2 deserved the gold medal before, then some change to the client must have screwed that up.

Unfortunately, the Medal is tallied as a average ranking of advocates that have tested it and rank it. I think someone jumped the gun a bit and ranked it several weeks ago which resulted in the Gold medal. It's since been changed to Known not to work as two other advocated including myself have changed it. Now its possible he was a beta tester and did somehow manage to get it to work but we will never know as he would be under the NDA.

He could post now the workaround since the official beta client is available with no NDA.

I really hate it when people jump the gun and rank a product while in beta. Guys, please, beta means that stuff is changing. One build may be gold and the other total garbage. There's enough of this type of behavior on winehq.org

Well, this was the first big thread in my inbox this morning...

We know it's possible to get Guild Wars 2 downloaded by restarting the installer over and over again (as posted in another forum). Anything beyond that is specifically under NDA... although the stress test this weekend is approaching. HOORAY!

I copied over the files from my PC, and it seemed to work. I got to the login screen just fine. But when I fined the install, there is no program bottle to select to launch the game. Where are the wine launch bottles located on the Mac or how do I get to the GW2 launch game files? Confused!

  1. Launch CrossOver so that it is your dock
  2. Click on the CrossOver icon in your dock so that 'CrossOver' appears on the title bar by the Apple Icon
  3. From the title bar select the "Programs" drop down menu and then choose "Run Command..."
  4. Choose the Guild Wars 2 bottle and then click "Browse"
  5. Browse to: the "GW2.exe" launcher and then click "Open"
  6. Click "Run" or "Save Command to Programs Menu"

The trouble is... with copying it from a Windows device... we have no way to know where the GW2.exe file got put (it could be in "Programs" or "Programs x86" or a number of other places. I would love to tell you exactly where it is but I just don't know. My apologies. I'm sure that when my download finishes I'll have a similar problem on my Mac with the launcher not being present but I'm currently in the crash/restart cycle.

And, we're working on it :)

Carson,

Thanks for the installation help, GW2 is now in my programs menu in Crossover and seems to be working fine to get to the log in screen. Looking forward to testing app out on Crossover and will send updates. Good luck all in this beta weekend of GW2. EXCITED!

Me too, got the login screen to open and seems stable. Thou I get a white screen if I try to minimize but hey. Yah!
