Has anyone upgraded to 9.0 and played DDO?

If so - how does it work?

Yes, I've played using 9.0rc2 on Ubuntu Lucid. I'll upgrade to the release tonight. Works great, including sound in. I'm using a virtual desktop, and also I had to change sound from hardware to emulation in the wine control panel.. but that was also true on CXGames 8.

the new Crossover Games for Mac breaks DDO for me. If someone else can get it to work please let me know.

I installed Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited today using the same pylotro launcher, LOTRs works great with it, but.... D&D doesn't work, it crashes after the intro of the came when it loads the rest of the game.

I've just played for over two hours on Ubuntu Lucid 64 bit, using pyLotro as my launcher.

Other than the annoyance of the wine context menu coming on ALT-RIGHTCLICK (whihc happens fairly often in DDO if you're chatting) it was indistinguishable from the experience on Windows. Video looked great, sound was clear, and voice chat worked fine. Just shy of a Gold rating in my book.

Do I have to reinstall ddo if I upgrade to 9.0?

Alex Wade wrote:

No - at least, for me, cxgames updated the bottle the first time I ran it after the upgrade, and I was off to the races.

You will want to run the installer and install the new version of DirectX support.

Well, I have nothing to lose by trying it on my iMac, since I get kicked out of the game frequently, which is pretty irritating.

I'll let you know how it goes.

ADDENDUM - Tell me what you mean when you say "run the installer" and install new DirectX support. Are you referring to the DDO installer? Or the Pylotro? Or CxG?

I've installed 9.0 on my iMac with no apparent problems. When I ran pylotro, it acted normal, but after the first splash, it kicked out like it usually does in the middle of the game, only it;s never done it this early.

ADDENDUM 2 - Found a place within CxG to install "modern" DirectX, did that. Ran Pylotro again. Got to small login box, logged in, then went through first and second splash screens, with screen saying I'd connected, blue bar across bottom saying "loading," and then when it should have asked which toon I wanted to log in, it instead shrank the screen and put up an empty "output" box, (no error message) and then there was eventually a Finished in the output box, but no other information.

ADDENDUM 3 - Figured out I had not installed the DirectX Modern into the DDO bottle, so I did that, and the results were exactly the same.

ADDENDUM 4 - Reinstalled DDO from on-hand files, then patched, then restarted and results were exactly the same.

At this point, the problem seems to be when the game finishes loading, it doesn't know what to do next, even though it did on 8.0 and 8.14. It may also be that it knows what to do but does not have the proper tools to do it. Any ideas of what else I could upgrade or change?

ADDENDUM 4 - Completely removed the old bottle. Created a new bottle. Reinstalled DDO from on-hand files into new bottle. Installed PyLotRO from the menu in CxG 9.0. Fired up PyLotRO and made the necessary settings changes, then patched the game. When I started the game, if DID EXACTLY THE SAME THING. Both splash screens, text at the bottom indicating connection, blue bar indicating loading, then black screen, which shrinks down to my dock, with an Output window that eventually says Finished and then the black screen in the dock disappears. [FYI, the bottle automatically populated with Legacy DirectX (as opposed to modern).]

Grr.

I found a ticket in support where someone has a similar problem and Caron asked for (but hasn't received) info regarding the video card that is being used. I'll try to figure out if there's some settings I can change. I'm close to reinstalling 8.0.

I ended up using boot camp (which I really didn't want to do) and built a partition and put winXP from an old install disk in the partition. It's working fine. I then installed ddo from the files i already had laying around on the iMac, and then fired it up. It went through the "patching" process and I was off to the races. The only problem is that the Magic Mouse is probably smarter than WindowsXP, and every now and then there is mouse action that does not appear on the screen. This makes it a little tough to play ddo, but I just played for over an hour with multiple instance changes, and never got kicked out. Compared to recent runs with CxG, that was awesome.

Anyone reading this, if you haven't pledged for CodeWeavers to fix ddo, please do so. It's only fair that we offer to support this effort. I've pledged. I'd happily uninstall XP and remove my partition and use CxG if it were working like it should. I shudder to think about the virus-attracting XP being on the same hard-drive as all my family photos, but at least I have the Time Capsule on my side.

I'm on a MacBook Pro, able to play DDO with very, very few crashes on 8.14. Upgraded to 9, DDO stopped working. I'd be able to launch pyLotro, but after loading the first splash with the blue bar, it would just go immediately to finished. Try just reinstalling CXG, and that didn't work, I suspect because it upgraded files to 9 that couldn't be brought back to 8.14.

I don't think the ticket in the ticket session (which I browsed through too) refers to this specific issue.

Currently went back and reinstalled 8.14, and now I'm reinstalling DDO and pyLOTRO to see if I can at least play.

Yup, back in business using 8.14 and after re-installing.

Broken for me as it appears to be for many people. Is reloading the last CxG build the best way to go? And if so, how exactly do I go about that? What I want to avoid is having to download the whole DDO program again, so I'm hesitant to do anything that's going to break it (which is why I held off updating to 9, and now really, really wish I hadn't done the upgrade).

I am getting eroror that I have the wrong client version. I have v. 8 it seems and I can't seem to upgrade to the lastest.

Do you get an error when patching or does it just say finished?

If it is the latter try copying patchclient.dll out of the backup directory back into the game directory (and make sure that is being used rather than some other patchclient.dll in PyLotROs options). I've seen several accounts of patchclient.dll no longer patching but copying it from the back up gets it going again.

Well, now I have another error, when I try and patch with the .dll:

wine: cannot find L"C:\windows\system32\and.exe"

winewrapper.exe:error: cannot execute L"and Dragons Online --cx-app rundll32.exe --verbose newclient.dll,Patch patch.ddo.com:80 --language ENGLISH --productcode DDO --filesonly --highres"

Nvm, fixed it. The problem was spaces in the bottle name.

Kim Christiansen wrote:

Yeah that does cause a problem that I probably should get round to fixing with PyLotRO :)

Also you should be able to use patchclient.dll for patching now as the DDO version has had the patch function exposed for a while, the functionality for using a different name was to get around the problem with the old patchclient patching itself with another version that didn't have the patch version exposed, nowadays you can drop the LotRO patchclient in (if you can't patch), leave it as patchclient and the patch process should do the rest for you.

i want to test the trial for cx games... unfortunately it is version 9 already

my gf is using a macbook and we want to play ddo

is there a way to get a trial of the latest working version?

got me a trial with version 8.1.4

however the pylotro that works fine with the 9.0 would not even launch with 8.1.4

... the ring shows up on our dock just like it's trying to load, then it just disappears with no error

could anyone help me?
