serious problems running the game

I am running Diablo III on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit using an Nvidia 560Ti. I am using Crossover LInux 11.3

The last couple of weeks i am having various problems with the game. 8 out of 10 times I will have a problem creating an auction in auction house where the request will timeout and about half of the time i will not be able to resume my game getting the 300008 error.
Also some times it hangs on retrieving the hero list.
I have already tried the ptrace solution but the problems are still there.
Any ideas?

Hmm, maybe you missed this tip:

BOTTLE="Diablo III"
setarch i386 -3 /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxrun --bottle "$BOTTLE" "$HOME/.cxoffice/$BOTTLE/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo III/Diablo III.exe"

Open a terminal window and type the above. It assumes your D3 bottle has been named "Diablo III". Adjust accordingly if that is not the case. It should also fix some performance issues you might be having. The implementation of warden for D3 seems to have some weird issues with wine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks mate! That worked like a charm!

By the way I did a few experiments prior to using this, and when I try to use the auction house before I join a game then I am always unable to join a game. If I first join a game without accessing at all the auction house then most of the time I can play normaly.

Yeah, without setarch there is all kinds of weird going on. In the same place, just before facing Diablo, I spend some time talking to Tyrael and I see my fps drop permanently after some time from about 60 to 40. Also, on attempting to log out the game hangs and I have to force quit the bottle.

Hey, thank you (1 month later) for that tip about "setarch". I was having the following weird issues, which it solved:

  • About 50% of the time, I was not able to log into the game. I would have to quit, relaunch, and try again.
  • After logging in successfully, I would have a couple of minutes to choose a quest, use the AH, or start the game. After those couple of minutes were up, I would not be able to access anything and would have to quit D3 and re-launch it.
  • Starting a game within that 1-2 minute window after logging in almost always worked. And once I was in a game, it would continue to work until I left it. At that point, I would have to quit and restart D3 if I wanted to play again. (i.e., 'resume' or 'change quest' would not work, nor would the AH or anything else from the character screen)
  • While in a game, achievements would not be updated as they were earned. Some time later, after leaving the game and coming back, they would be checked off. Also, gameplay was a bit choppy; my character would move in spurts.
  • Any time I exited the game, it would take a long time to actually quit. Most of the time I would end up just killing the process.

So anyway, I don't know why I didn't see that advice anywhere else, but it worked. Maybe if anyone searches for those issues I was having they'll find this. Thanks again!
