Characters not appearing in game except for hats

Supposedly Desperados 3 "runs great". It seems to run, but I can't see the character sprites except for some accessories (hats, etc). I've seen the same problem with some other games. I am running Crossover 22.1 on a MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019, OSX Monterey 12.6.5. Any help?
