Hi i am using crossover games trial and when i play cs:s i have around 40-60 fps and in fights i get down to 10-20 fps. which i dont understand.
Here is my mac mini
2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB memory
320GB hard drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
Mac OS X Snow Leopard
my screen is 22' widescreen
is the computer my problem? my settings? or crossover? btw is crossover better than bootcamp?
Even on a windows computer when you get in fights your fps will drop a lot, because there's more to draw. The best thing you can do is set all the graphics to the very lowest settings, and to use the -dxlevel 81 launch option one time, after that you can remove it because it will be automatic.
Bootcamp has 100% game compatibility, but you have to buy a copy of windows, which is very expensive, and puts your mac at risk of viruses.
Crossover is inexpensive, requires no copy of windows, and has virtually no virus risk. It however does not have 100% compatibility.
I prefer Crossover myself.
Like i said in many threads, change ur graphics properties to medium, shaders and shadows to Low or OFF if possible, change launch options to play the game on Direct X 8.0/1. And MOST importantly, this has helped many people facing low fps, but set ur screen resltn to normal aspect ratio (4:3) instead of widescreen or wtvr ur using, and set it to run in a window to get OPTIMAL performance. It is frustrating to not be able to play in full-screen but this method works until a fix for this wide-screen issue is implemented in the next release of CXG.
