Is this normal performance?

I get around 20 fps, at a resolution of around 1080 I think times something, when on Boot Camp I play at the highest resolution it lets me (1400 times something), and get at least double 20 fps. Am I just stuck with a low frame rate? Is there any way I can improve it?

Whether or not that is normal performance depends on your video card.

Add the launch option -dxlevel 81 when you launch it the first time, after that it is no longer necessary. This will improve your frame rate quite a bit. Also make sure that all quality settings are low, and that HDR rendering is turned off. You can also try -dxlevel 70, -dxlevel 60, -dxlevel 50 as well, but most servers won't let you go that low.

okay..3 sams in a row...now thats kinda weird 😀

most severs only let you go to bout directx 7 at the lowest

IMHO , your video memory sounds like it is shared

Are you by any chance using intel GMA graphic cards?

If yes , those graphic cards are a underpowered when it comes to running hl2 mod games...

Naturally it would work better in bootcamp due to the native window drivers

Since Crossover is a implementation of the windows api , naturally things might slightly slower than the expected speed

Lowering direct x level would help quite a fair bit ....

If you are not using the intel graphic card , pls do tell

Haha, that is weird. I am using an Ati Radeon 2400. Does using Direct X 8 actually make the graphics look different compared to Direct X 9?

Direct X 9 looks better than Direct X 8. In TF2 it is a very noticeable difference, in CSS it is less dramatic. The radeon 2400 definitely supports direct x 9, but crossover is still a bit slow to take full advantage of it without paralyzing your frames.

Using direct x 8 in CSS would only reduce texture , shading , skin and some other minute detials which do not hamper game play.

TF2 is a slightly different thing...The hl2 engine they are using is modded..( but till what extand i dont know )
CSS actually is one of the games that uses the most vanilla or cleanest version of hl2 engine..well supposedly ..read it of somewhere on the web
